if hossa was so banged up and tired then i wish he wouldn't play in the world championship. i was never really high on hossa, but that's just me.

Hossa is a player that when he is producing I love but when he isn't I hate. buff and ladd for hossa

To trade Campbell, I imagine another bad contract comes back, so would that help improve the team? I guess depends on the player and contract coming this way.

The team just needs tweaking not an overhall. Hawks have lots of assets, should be an interesting off-season.

To be honest, I wish he wouldn't play either, but the IIHF World championships are kinda a big deal to the Slovaks, especially since it's in Slovakia this year. Hell, their last world championship they won, almost the entire country shut down to watch them win.

Something tells me unless Hossa is requiring the same level of surgery he needed before coming to the 'hawks, he will play for his country. It would be like Gary Bettman telling Ovechkin he can't play for Russia in the Olympics...You know Ovi would do it anyway.

Regardless of personal reasons, you dump Hossa you're a moron. Contract is a masterpiece the way it is written, and he will retire before finishing it anyway. he is one of, if not "the" toughest person to knock off the puck in the league, did you see who created the play that lead to the goal to get them in game 7?????

...and who got the puck on goal so that Toews could score that ridiculously great goal and get us into OT in game 7.

He kills penalties, plays on the PP, is our best two-way forward. True his goal production is down a little bit, but he still averages nearly a point a game, his career average.

More free rides for Hossa I see.............priceless!

First, you put the "over/under" in Hossa's games played at 60% - yet he's played in 151 of 193games (which includes the initial 22gms missed from shoulder surgery he came in needing)... still puts him at 78% of games played.

And in those 151gms - 54g - 75a - 129pts +40 6gwg 7shg

A Stanley Cup

Free ride.

Regarding Hossa, I strongly agree that he is an elite talent and one of the best two way players in the league. It doesn't get much better, if at all.

As for the prayers he score more goals, don't forget that in his first year here, he scored 24 goals in 57 games, which i think was the highest average per game on the team. This year his 25 goals in 65 games was not the highest average per game on team, but pretty close. Keep in mind that he was hurt a good part of this year, he hasn't had a center to get him the puck most of the year, and NOBODY had played more professional hockey in the last 3 years than Marion Hossa.

I am admittedly not Scotty Bowman, but i have never seen a player with better puck possession skills than Marion Hossa. His play to set up Smith OT goal in game 6 was a classic Hossa move where the puck seemed to be glued to him. His shot to set up the Toews rebound goal in game 7 to force OT was also a little helpful.

Kopey i would keep based on the bang for the buck argument. What you expect from a guy making that much? If he was any better he'd be able to double his salary and we know what that means (adios just like buff, steeger, ladd).

Turco, nice guy but he's gone. I would not even think about keeping him and I'd be surprised if the hawks even offered him a minimum contract.

I'd be all about keeping Soup if not for the salary cap. He makes Chara, Lidstrom, Pronger money. He is grossly overpaid. I'd make trading him my number one priority. If so, then my 1b priority is depth for the bottom two lines and a top 6 center.

Finally kudos to the front office for picking up Frolik and Campoli basically for nothing. Nice additions.

The key to the future is drafting well and having guys you can call up when guys take raises and leave (as will happen given the total cap hit of the core). No more drafting guys like Skille, Barker, Beach please.

Sign Brooks Laich. Guys an UFA, center, WHL guy. Maybe get him at 3 mil? Also, I don't watch much Caps hockey at all and on one site saw him listed as a Left Wing, everywhere else lists him at center and I thought he was, regardless I'd love the addition.

Also he bit Sean Avery and that earns him some serious points.

He's a natural center, and very good at it. He plays both....the Caps have a plethora of centers, so they use him primarily on the left side.

He makes a mill more than D. Boyle and they are arguably the two best O dmen in the league. His defensive game has came around since chicago. He led in plus/minus. I wouldn't trade him. He is perfect for this team and if he exits it leaves a gaping hole in our D that isn't easily filled. Right now, if Leddy and Campoli develop a bit more and Hammer has a better year we go back to having the best D corps in the league again. I wouldn't touch our 6 Dmen right now. Even hammer who has frustrated the shit out of me this year, I'm chalking it up to a bad year. The guys that played this season are gonna be wanting revenge on the nucks and yeah I expect a completely different season next year out of this roster.

Thats all I need to hear, natural center. Hope the Caps get ousted quick so we can start the rumors.

Brian Campbell is NOT one of the top two offensive defensemen in the league.

I would argue he's not even in the top 20.

His contract is an anvil around the Hawks neck, and even though it would likely be next to impossible, trading him is something Stan should put considerable effort into.

Love the player, but the contract....Oh boy!

Bingo....

Top two offensive defensemen in the NHL? Holy ****! Get real man. When was the last time Campbell even finished in the top twenty in scoring for defensemen? Three years ago? He has steadily declined offensively, ever since coming here.

He's not even one of the top two offensive defensemen on THE HAWKS! Seabrook and Keith are both bigger offensive threats. The fucking guy barely sees PP time anymore. Move him. As soon as humanly possibly.

He was very solid defensively this year but Campbells biggest value to the team is his puck moving skills. It was obvious in last years series vs Nashville how much that was missed. This year when he was out at the beginning of the season the team got better at bringing the puck up the ice without him, but against a tough defensive minded team like Nashville he can make a big difference.

It would be nice to have his salary off the books. So if Stan could deal him and strengthen other team weaknesses, would it offset the loss of Campbell?

Absolutely. If not next season, then the following season when Leddy has had another season to mature and improve. Doubly so if we end up bringing Campoli back. Campbell is just completely redundant at this point. Keith, Campbell, Leddy, Campoli.... All puck movers. If you can somehow trade Campbell, you bring in a big, physical, stay at home defenseman for a few mil, and you spend the savings on upgrading the forwards. Might even land that #2 centerman with the cap space from moving Campbell...

Can't argue with that reasoning. LaLonde is another puck mover in the system.

There is a difference between puck movers and being able to drive the puck into the zone without losing it. Campbell is the only D-man I've seen who can consistently cross the blue line in the puck. And for as much as everyone complains about dumb and run, it's invaluable. He is by far the best at bringing the puck up the ice. Keith would be next, but he relies on long passes all the time, and then a dump.

dump.

I thought Keith relied on the outlet pass stright to the forcheker...

...too soon? <j/k> I seriously think Keith's just had an off year.
