This just seems really strange for both parties. Why a 7 year contract?
Because this:
Right away, Rodgers gets a $35 million roster bonus, subject to five-year proration. He also has a $1.838 million base salary for 2023. His cap number for the current year is $8.88 million.

Robert Schmitz put another dissecting a drive video - by m a big fan of these because they show “enhanced” all-22 breakdown of X&O’s on a play by play basis but also let’s you see the sequence as a whole - IE motion man that did nothing earlier in the drive then gets the ball out of a similar formation later in it fooling the defense. I like that he shows the bad as well as we are all painfully aware there is a ton of room for improvement:
