I know people are going to hate the Bears signing low cost, high value guys because all the mock offseasons have Payne, McGlinchey, Pocic, Davenport and a bunch of 15-20M/year players. But I don't think the Bears will sign a bunch of guys for big long-term deals. I think they'll sign a couple for sure, if they identify a guy that can be their long-term 3T and if they can find a long-term OL or 2. But they are going to sign a bunch of guys that fit the low cost, short-term description.
In the article, I really like a bunch of those names. A'Shawn Robinson would be a nice NT addition. Cheaper than a guy like Dalvin Tomlinson, but will do his job as a run defender. Still allows you to sign a 3-tech, and even if you draft Jalen Carter on top of that, you have a strong 3-man rotation and allow Carter to develop.
Azeez Al-Shaair is fun. I'd raid the Niners of anyone I could get. They run the offense we should want to replicate and a similar style defense. Al-Shaair is their SAM, but he has played all over when their other guys have been injured. I'd actually like him at the Will. But even if you add another LB in free agency or the draft, you can mix and match the 3 LBs (Shaair, Sanborn, rookie/fa) in the nickel and use them as they are best.
Rankins doesn't do much for me as he's not a real answer at 3T, they'd have to be sure they are going with Carter if signing him. Mack Hollins is fun. He can play some slot, run block and makes some catches over the middle, but I'd like him a lot better without St Brown. McGovern would be fine. I don't really want a high-priced C, so he would work. He's a step up from Patrick but not a true answer. Gesicki is probably not going to happen.
