so trey lance is already a bust?

He was always the most likely to bust in that class.

Fields almost threw more passes in highschool than Lance has in his entire life, HS, College, Pros.

No idea how a giant project ended up going #3 overall. If the 9ers just took fields they would be close to a sure fire superbowl winner this year.

This is all the pat mahomes effect. Since that year everyone has been overdrafting raw QB's with traits in hopes they turn into mahomes. Gonna happen again this year with Levis.

he hasnt had much of a chance to play because of the injury

seems kind of quick for the 9ers to move on
They aren’t moving on this quick. Sounds like he had good camp last year. Still really raw but there was definitely quite a bit of hype around him during last years 9ers camp. He’d have to be absolutely terrible/broken for the 9ers to move on so quick after spending #12, their 2023 1st and their 2024 1st on him. That’s a lot of investment to just cut bait after he’s only had, what 3, 4 starts?

You're not getting Buckner and Payne. If the trade happened before March 15, you just wouldn't go after Payne, if he's even allowed to leave Washington. If the trade happened after March 15, and you already signed Payne, you wouldn't go after Buckner in the trade. It's the same logic fans are using for why Payne will even be a FA....because the Commanders wouldn't want to spend 40Mil on the DT position alone. Payne and Buckner would be the Bears spending 40Mil on DT. Of course, they have the money to spend 40M on DT right now, but they won't in a couple years when you hopefully have to sign Fields to a huge contract.

Also, probably not getting Will Anderson if you trade down to 4.
Unlikely but not impossible. Buckner only had 2 years left on his deal and any Payne contract likely has a the first year or two at a reasonable cap it so could by the time Payne gets really expensive, Buckner's contract is up.

Also possible you can do a mini extension for Buckner and lower his 20m AAV by guaranteeing the next year or two as his contract is all non guaranteed right now.

It's a swap of 2nd rounders, moving the Bears 2nd round pick back up to the start of the round. My biggest concern with this trade proposal is you probably lose Anderson to AZ at pick 4. Overall it's a nice deal for Chicago if there are two players they like equally so that one should be available when they pick at 4, unless they are eyeing another trade back from there.
Irsay desperate. Gotta take advantage of it. No 1 is worth 3000. No 4 1800. future year picks are discounted a round so next years first is worth 550 and this years 2nd is also 550. So combined that would be 2900. So adding Buckner makes it an overpay for Colts which it should be if Bears have a ton of interest in pick. Question is what round value you put on Buckner. Given his contract and rumors he might be cut I would go no higher than valuing him as a mid 2nd round pick so that is 450 pushing Colts side up to 3350 vs 3000. Best I would do if I were Bears is maybe offer our 2nd 4th rounder. Certainly would not swap 2nds.

Remember they have seen him up close in practice. They know what they have.
