That's what you do for practice squad, if they are going to put a guy on the practice squad he has to go through wavers..
But what does being #1 on the waver claims have to do with this situation?

I asked if we could claim him first, but as you pointed out you cant claim the guy you just cut. Was thinking there might be a loop hole to bounce him and other players from PS to 53 and back again by cutting then getting first dibs again, but to claim him he has to go back to the 53 not the PS so no loophole.

although there is some new rule that you can bounce a player from PS to the 53 and then back again, but there is limitations on only doing it a few times or something. Bottom line here is the only way to have the emergency QB is to have him on the 53.. if you are putting Bagnet on the PS then your not running a emergency QB because I dont see them keeping both peterson and PJ and have Bagent on the PS

But what does being #1 on the waver claims have to do with this situation?
was thinking there was a loophole, posted it above..

People are getting confused..

Or maybe I am if they have changed things again

As soon as every team cuts down to 53, all those other players are cut, if they are vets with 4 years they are free agents and can sign with any team, the rest go on waivers and bears pick first, they can fill the PS and also cut and move guys to the 53 if they want.

But to get the players on the PS they have to go through waivers first
You are wrong.

Once teams choose their 53, everyone else is cut. The vets are immediate free agents but everyone else goes to wavers.

At this point, the Bear have first claim on any of the waver players, and if they choose someone or someones, the Bear bring them to the 53 and cut the same amount of players that they claimed. Now these newly cut players go to wavers.

Once players go through the waver process and are not claimed, teams can try to get these players to fill out their own PS. There is no #1 position for the Bears on these players. If, say the Chargers, think that a cut player from the Bears would be ideal for their PS and the Bears also want that player, it is up to the player to choose where he goes.

But you don't have to waive him to bring him up and there's no reason to waive him to get to 53 if you then claim him and he counts against the same 53.

Focusing on run and pass protection.

You guys like to razz me, yet Flus is keeping a healthy Justin Fields out of the game after he had pressure up the middle in the game and in the practices after on that same screen play.

Stop pretending things are all rosy and normal just because you got a personal beef w me. If they were and everything was fine, Flus would not be keeping Justin out of the next game, and would not mention protection as something that is needed to be worked on.

There's something off with the protection for Fields. Flus wants it ironed out before he puts Fields back in there. It could be any number of things, but the screen game really stands out as when it seems like protection doesn't hold up.

And before the peanut gallery starts bitching that screens are supposed to let defenders in to allow a mismatch - screens aren't meant to get your quarterback destroyed in the process. Other teams have screens, let defenders through, and yet still give their qb enough time to get the ball off before the defender can hit them. NORMALLY, its because rather than ditch their assignment up front and run sideways like whitehair is doing, the center or someone assigned to the man across from the center will hold the block for a half-second before releasing and moving on to their screen assignment, to buy time for the play to develop and not get the QB killed.

You can't let a defender run straight up the gut between the guard and center, even on a screen, uncontested and not expect to get your QB killed, unless you are also adding in a sprint or roll out away from the anticipated pressure.

On 3 plays, 2 in practice and one in the game, I saw none of that - I saw whitehair give up almost completely on the guy across from him so he could sprint left, and no one, not a RB, FB, TE, the RG, etc was there to handle that gap, giving the defender a straight shot at Fields, and leading to him getting or almost getting hit in those situaitons.

Is it Whitehair? Is it play design? Is someone not following through on their assignments? Could be all of the above. Flus didn't sound happy when he talked about why Fields wasn't playing. You can't get your QB killed. Period.
Talking about the DJ Moore TD and your belief that ONLY ONE lineman can leave his man, which of the 4 linemen who left their blocks should have been the one who was given the green light to leave their man to block the screen.

Educate us.

All year.
Not all year. There is a time period where they keep the #1 waver pick (3 weeks?). After that, the waver claims are readjusted to the current team with the worst record.

So, it will be the Bears for several weeks and then the Panthers will have the #1 waver pick for the rest of the year.

Fingers crossed.

to bring him up someone has to get cut to make room, was incorrectly thinking of bouncing players back and forth as a possible loophole, Doesn't work that way so the only option is to put the emergency QB on the 53 and be done with it.. or dont go with an emergency QB

You keep bouncing between Sept cut downs and game day decisions. last year's Sept cuts included cutting Peterman but he stayed with the team and was elevated to the active when needed. Only 2 QBs made the original 53 and I expect the same this year. It becomes which or both of Peterman and Bagent they keep for the PS and if they need to elevate one due to a ding. Some teams carry 3 on the active and others carry 2. Pretty sure that the Bears had 2 active all of last year, so much ado about very little.

Whitehair was out of the play on those screens. The left side picked up the linebackers. Whitehair's job is to get in the way of the defensive end to make sure he doesn't get the receiver from behind initially - not really an issue given Moore's speed.

Which is why I have questions on the design of it.

Whitehair was not out of those plays. On the Moore screen it would be an issue with Moore's speed if it is not a good pass or the DE coming from behind has good speed. Whitehair cant just ignore his responsibility based on assumptions from a couch potato.

On the Herbert screen he was down the field and made the key block that allowed Herbert to score.

Go look at the play again idiot.

Moore is already 4-6 yards upfield before whitehair makes the block. No way the defender catches him. The keys to springing Moore loose were the blocks from Jones and Jenkins.

Whitehair takes out a linebacker who would have at least slowed him down, he sealed the lane idiot.

Reported for rudeness and for still arguing something you don’t understand after almost an entire week of being proven wrong.

You said he was out on those SCREENS ie plural. On the Herbert one he was litetally 30 yards downfield blocking so you are 100% wrong on that one. He was instrumental to the TD not out of the play.

On the Moore screen he is not pyschic with 100 eyes. He has to decide to feign a block and get out before he knows how good a pass Moore got or where Moore is. So the point is he cant just assume his assigned role doesnt matter and disregard it just to make your dumb couch potato ass feel good.

Like how stupid are you. Do you think Whitehair has time to look to see where Moore is before he then decides whether to stick with the play as designed or go rogue? You are expecting him to look all the way down the line and use X-Ray vision to look thru the G, LT and defenders while also watching the on rushing DL? That is just dumb.

Well last year was a different rule so to say we only had 2 QBs last year doesnt mean anything for the new rule this year. The game day decision is we have 46 active players on game day, If you add in an emergency 3rd QB you get 47, the downside is that QB has to be on the 53 so you take up one of the 53 spots for a 3rd QB but you gain 1 extra player on game day. And I dont think Peterman is eligible for the PS so thats not an option

Not trying to make this a study in minutia but he is and was on the PS last year and inactive for most games. The point was they tended to have only 2 active on game day.
