Building a top D has never been a problem for Bears GMs but Pace was brought in to build an O which he has failed miserably at.
See Phil Emory/Trestman/Tucker

Since 1985, there isn't a 5 year period where the Bears did not have a top 12 D at least 1 year. So no building a good D in Chicago has not been particulalry hard Emery notwithstanding.
5 year period L -WTF- OL. Greatest move of the goalposts ever, even by Remy standards.

And Phil Emery notwithstanding? Are you saying Phil Emery built a better than historically team worst defense?

And to save you a post, the 2012 defense in Emery's first season, that ranked 3rd in points allowed, featured zero starts by any player Emery brought in and the same coaching staff.

It wasn't until his building blocks of coaches Tressman/Tucker, his cornerstone defensive draft picks of McClellin, Brandon Hardin, Jonathan Bostic, Khaseem Greene, the shrewed FA moves of cutting B Lach, and the acquisitions of Jared Allen, DJ Williams, and Ryan Mundy contributed were they able to reach the depths of the 2 worst seasons in the 100 years.

Please tell me all about Emery's defense he was able to help build.

He was saying Phil Emery was one exception that couldn't build a defense

This is not the forum to get into it but you know what.
Idk. I think its a little ridiculous that while the large majority of black people in America don't think they are treated well/equal, that whenever they take any sort of stance so many white people are outraged by it. I think we could simply take their word and at least feign to make an attempt at caring and progressing. Ignore the situation that is causing the uproar and realize, almost unanimously, African Americans feel they face prejudice or unjust difficulties in day to day life. Isnt that enough to say okay we can do better for you? (I don't want red herrings about how blacks kill each other in Chicago or whatever either. Thats a different topic entirely)

If I told my Boss I would like to attend a protest, she would:
1. Make me take vacation time to do it (assuming my schedule would allow it)
2. Deny my request
3. If I went without permission, I would not be paid.

The Bears are taking the high road and allowing the players the time to protest, and by doing so the organization is also participating in the protest.

I think they are doing the right thing, because to deny the players the right to protest would simply have too much backlash.

I read it as him trying to validate his statement, " Building a top D has never been a problem for Bears GMs" by throwing in a 5 year qualifier so despite the Emery years the Bears mystic ability to have a top year carries on. As if Emery's picks eventually contributed.

Doesn't believing , " Building a top D has never been a problem for Bears GMs," mean you also have to believe a Bears GM will never be able to find a QB or build a top 10 offense.

I mean it's the team history not the GM that determines this fate, apparently.

Bullshit
Get to work

go woke go broke
I'm hope this is just a horrible attempt at trolling.

offense can't afford to not have practices

The league is largely African American and while the cops almost killed a black man on tape (Jacob Blake) the same police thanked a white local terrorist cell and gave them water as they kindly arrested them for killing two American citizens.

I'm a white guy in Canada. I don't see how you can afford to ignore that type of racial divide.

BTW, this is as football related as talking about COVID. Gotta think owners are shitting their pants thinking a police shooting in a city on a Friday means no football that weekend in select regions (or certain players sitting out last minute). Unlike bubble leagues or baseball there's no flexibility for makeup games.

I know everyone is going to throw a fit about politics. But there is no practice today for a reason, so if you don't want to discuss that, then they might as well not enter this thread

Glad to hear it is not season ending, but I would be concerned that missing that much practice time, that he will not be in football shape, and will he be mentally recovered? Anyone that has every prepared for a sport or even worked out for that matter knows that after 3 days, you begin to lose the endurance and strength that you have built up.

Monty was the work horse last year, and there is no way that after 2 weeks off he will be ready to take over that role for game 1. He might be back with the team, but I doubt he will be the starter

I would not want to see Tarik as the starter, so that leaves Nall, Patterson or an undrafted rookie (I like Pierce, BTW). Hate bringing in a vet off the street (Ware, Prosise, or Freeman), but it might be a good idea to get one in here ASAP, so that they might have an outside chance of being able to help the team.

What? I'm talking about why the practice is cancelled and mentioning that it could easily happen again.

I know some people go to sports as an escape from the real world, but unfortunately that luxury is gone. Pretending it's not happening won't change the outcome.

I'll give you the entire Aug. 27th practice notes: Some players looked over the playbook, some received treatment for injuries and some trained. You didn't see it and there weren't reporters, but they are in the building and it's safe to assume it happened. I'd add a lot of players were not working on improving in football because:
- hurricane Laura (Notice how it's always bad when it's named after a woman?).
- Jacob Blake shooting and the long list of issues that arise form that topic.
- COVID-19.
- Political stuff - Yes there is a convention going on now.
- Other personal life stuff.
