They will. I mean who wouldn't? Big payroll, will spend, playoff team, will trade for players to win, etc.

CHC should be that team to SPEND, PLAYOFF TEAM, WILL TRADE FOR PLAYERS TO WIN....Instead we have CHEAP AZZ OWNER:bigfinger:

That's not the right path to take now. Develop prospects.

Yea so we can wait another 102 years!!!!!!!:rolling:

You realize that we hadn't been developing prospects well before and now we are? The 102 years is from doing what you think we should do.

IMO if he could spend, I believe he would. I think Ricketts got in over his head with his fascination to own the Cubs. So with that said, he pretty much has to start to trim payroll and still appease the fans. It is going to be very tough for Ricketts, as he is getting on the nerves of Cub fans. I am a sox fan, and also a business man myself. Overhead is with every company including a sports teams, and if the bottom line is shrinking, you have to shirink something else, and that is overhead. But with that said, the pan handling ricketts wants money to help for his additions to wrigley.

I can see why cub fans are pissed, as I would be too. Hell it has been 102 years so a couple more years to build to possibly be a WS contender isnt really all that bad. hell I think they contend in 2012.

Now on a side note, if the cubs would have lived up to their play back in 2008 in the playoffs like they were during the season and if they would have won, this convo wouldnt be going on. but it is what it is....and chicago baseball sucks ass, and its unfortunate being a big market city.

We dont even know if any of these so called specs will turn out. There called prospects for reason. Only player that we know for sure will turn out will be Castro. Vitters so far suxed. Cashner over 4.50 ERA in pen. Dont have 2nd or 3rd pitch. Colvin going to be 260 with 20 HR guy, not exactly a guy u build around.

I agree with this alot. Ricketts shouldnt even won the bid for CHC. His bid wasnt even the most. The day i heard he was selling his business and stocks to buy this team i knew this shit would happen. He cant afford to keep the Cubs up with the big markets even though being in Chicago they should be right there. I think with this guy CHC going to sux for a long time to come.

His bid was the one with the most up-front capital.. Which is what matters in these sort of deals.

well.. maybe if the trib didnt give a shitload to Hendry beforehand we would be able to..

I hate to tell you.. there are a lot of us.. including myself that are just fine with going younger.. considering that keeps financial flexibility open down the line when we are one or two players away..

Right now we are 10-12 players away.. so there's no point in pissing away money on one or two players.

i disagree we are 10-12 players away...i believe we are 3 good moves away. First we need a number 1 SP (Lee,Grienke)... 1B (A-Gone, Paulie, LaRoche(not big fan of but would help us) .....lastly a RHP Setup (Wood,Jenks,Crain)....i think just 3 good moves in these positions puts the cubs contending for NLC....Dont tell me that this team might be good enough to contend in NLC but not WS...to me if you get in anything can happen. Rather get in and get swept then not get in. Yes it would cost some money for these guys. There is no reason why CHC couldnt have 145-150 mil payroll. BOS,PHI will and we in bigger market.

Dewitt 2B
Castro SS
A-Ram 3B
A-Gone 1B
Byrd CF
Soriano LF
Colvin RF
Soto C

Lee
Demp
Big Z
Wells
ROOKIE

Marmol
Wood
Marshall
Cashner
Grabow
Mixture of guys

this could contend for NLC:clap:

It's good, but it is utterly unrealistic unfortunately. MAYBE in 2012, with the good FA market. I'd rather get a good FA 1B than trading away the farm. Lee won't come here, but Archer and possibly a rejuvenated Webb or someone could help. Wood is realistic.

It's realistic for 2012, not 2011.
