Cubs' 2nd round pick Vogelbach traveled to Chicago for a physical. As he prepares to sign. Still not official, though.

Rumor: The Cubs will sign all 3 of Dunston, Maples and Jacquez. Also, Baez has prolly signed already, but not just mentioned.

If all that was to happen, this would be the best draft ever and prolly best in the MLB. A lot of the talent the Cubs drafted were top and fell because they weren't expecting to sign or was asking for too much. This draft may help the Cubs to a top farm system.

If the Cubs get Baez, Vogelbach, Dunston, Maples and Jacquez on top of what has signed already this may be Tim Wilken's best draft ever. The crop of international free agents combined with the amateur draftees is what I point to when people question what direction the Cubs are headed.

The day is coming and we'll know by the end of Monday if the Cubs have signed all them, plus more.

Again they are called prospects. Just cause Cubs overpaying doesnt mean they turn into anything. 98% of prospects DONT MAKE IT. Less even make a impact.

I understand that the majority don't make it, but as much as can be known at this point in time this is a very good draft. A ton of injuries or these guys could not adjust to professional baseball, but I don't see the harm in being optimistic right now about the chances of this draft class to help this team down the road.

I wish i could but i just dont get excited for guys that are not likely to make it and if they do still 2-5 years away.

Well in all honesty you are making my point since the Cubs are likely to sign more guys then usual and more guys that fell because of signability issues. So that is why this draft is so exciting. The Cubs are getting both quantity and quality in this draft. Plenty of these guys won't make it to the big leagues, but there is good reason to believe that there will be a solid wave of guys coming in a few years that can either be dealt to fill a hole or take a job.

Once upon a time, all ballplayers, even the ones in the HOF, were prospects. It's a numbers game. You amass as many of the best prospects as possible and hope they don't flame out. Every team has to do this.

Every good baseball organization develops talent and prospects. If you dont have a good farm system chances are you aren't a very good organization. Im happy the Cubs are finally focusing on player development. Think about it what if the Pirates or Rays could have the Cubs pay role they would be a hell of a team and legit WS contenders every year. Just look at how the Braves organization works.

Look at NYY,BOS, and PHI. They just keep spending money to win. They dont have to rebuild with specs. Cubs should be able to do it that way. You cant compare Cubs to PIT or TBR. Have to compare them to BIG MARKET

That is where you are wrong look at there farm systems and how they acquire talent. I believe Gonzalez was acquired via trade same with Beckett and many others. The fact of the matter is you need great prospects to get talent. The Soxs and Phily have great farm systems and the Yanks have a few top prospects specially at catcher that will net them a Adrian Gonzalez player soon. Look at how the Philys just got Hunter Pence and all there great talent most of them come via trade for good spects thats how they got Doc and Lee(a few years ago)

My point is to be a great team you need a great farm system and willing to spend to get good players aswell.

Im not disagreeing Cubs dont need a good farm. Im just saying they need to trade the specs like those big market teams do. Cubs just seem to hold onto there specs to long where they have no value like Pie, Patterson, Hill and ETC. I just hope guys realize that prospects will not bring Cubs to promise land anytime soon.

7:25pm: The Cubs have not reached an agreement with Baez, according to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune (via Twitter).

6:48pm: The Cubs have agreed to terms with shortstop Javier Baez, the No. 9 overall selection in this year's draft, according to Kendall Rogers of Perfect Game USA (via Twitter).

The terms of the contract have not yet been announced. MLB's slot recommendation for the No. 9 pick is $1.962MM, according to Baseball America.

Baez, 18, was selected out of Arlington Country Day School in Jacksonville, Fla. He was the fourth position player and second shortstop taken, the first being Francisco Lindor, whom the Indians took at No. 8. Per our list of first and supplemental rounders, Baez becomes the 11th first-round selection to agree to terms or sign.

Could be signs he getting close to sign :)

The Cubs sign 41st round pick Austin Urban. He recieved a signing bonus of 100K.

Note: Dunston is expected to recieve 1st round money.

This draft, if Baez, signed is going to be ridiculous in the amount of money they spent.

Yep....but that's good and maybe it'll show the offseason the Cubs could have.
