Yes. The end is coming.

It would certainly be an awesome late Xmas present to get a 41 game season from some point in January until baseball is in full swing, and maybe a deep playoff run to take my mind off another wasted season.

Ahh, sounds like temporary realignment is dead now.

Being a fan of the NHL is getting harder by the day and more embarassing by the minute. I'd trade off this season for Bettman's head on a platter in a hot minute.

This league is spiraling down to Arena Football status....Bettman needs to go.

Reports today of expansion again, referred to "two new teams and a total of about $600 million in expansion fees coming" (Ken Campbell, THN), but the other part of the tweet about PA wanting expansion/relocation fees part of HRR was shot down, so maybe this is false too, but looking more likely that it will happen.

Two pretty quick counter proposals over the last few days. Hopefully that is a sign that they are getting closer. Only two more weeks of this at most...

I forgot the exact dates but I think they have to get the season started by the tail end of January to squeeze the 48 in-conference games in, which means the deal has to happen within a week or so such that they can squeeze in a week of mini-camp.

Last time there was a shortened season, the NHL started playing games on Jan 20th with an agreement happening on Jan 11th. Right now the NHL has cancelled games up to the 14th. If we get to that point, they will either be talking about the agreement reached or cancelling the season.

You are correct with the 48 game season. Everything the NHL has said so far is that a 48 game season is the lowest they are willing to go.

Do they have a deadline for end of season? Sounds like there won't be that much time in between games and injuries are going to pile up if they keep to established norms, usually the Stanley Cup Finals are done before the NBA Finals are into their third game.

I haven't heard anything about a deadline. The only time frame that has been spoken about is the NHL Free Agency. It currently opens on July 1 but the NHL wants to move it back July 11.

My understanding is that the NHL will keep the same time frame but just squeeze in a couple more games here and there. Would definitely be a busier schedule.

Injuries in a shortened season are going to be huge. Currently the Blackhawks have a boatload of NHL Dmen (probably around 8)...and I'm hoping they don't pull the trigger on a trade if the lockout ends (many think Hammer would be the one to go). They may need every guy because the time to overcome an injury is going to be much shorter in a season that is 34 games less than usual.

Here's the latest Yahoo story, suggesting that the union is going to respond at some point today. Deadline for a deal to save the season is next Friday.

Also...I see what JNTG was saying now, this will probably come later after the players and NHL get their heads out of their asses and actually start playing and making money again.

I was referring to the league expansion actually, really sounding like it will happen. This playoff expansion is awful btw, even with 2 expansion teams, that's 20 of 32 teams making the playoffs. That's 5 of 8, 62.5%. It would seem that this would coincide with realignment and 4th and 5th seeds would have a play-in like the Wild Card Game in MLB.

NHL is fine & stuffz.

You realize this is completely unrelated to the most recent developments in the CBA, right? Just seems random at the time you chose to post it for the thousandth time.

Players made another offer, sounds like pensions still an issue, meeting again at around 7PM Central Time, PA has until 11PM Central to decide on filing disclaimer of interest. Remember that if a deal is done today or tomorrow we can get a 52 game season in.

you get to the 48 game mark and its a bit of a sample size season. it will be entertaining if there are hot starts by pretenders and cold starts by the major players.
