It would be nice to see this get settled, but I have long given up hope. Going to be a long gap between the Orange Bowl and pitchers and catchers report as the Bears choke down the stretch for a second straight year.

If they got something done quick perhaps they can salvage a couple month season and postseason. I mean lets face it over half the teams make it to the playoffs so it isn't like it is the regular season is the most important thing for the NHL.

Viktor Stalberg
scored a goal and added an assist for Atlant in a 6-2 loss to Automobilist Sunday. The goal was the 10th of the season for the Blackhawks winger, but amazingly it's his first assist of the campaign.

scored a goal in Atlant Mytishi's 5-4 loss to Barys Astana. Stalberg has two goals and six points in 11 KHL games this season. He also previously had seven goals and 12 points in an 11-game stint with the SEL's Vastra Frolunda HC.

Michael Frolik
registered an assist in Chomutov's 5-2 loss to Kladno. Frolik was up against Jaromir Jagr, who has been a dominant force in the Czech League. Frolik has 12 goals and 19 points in 27 contests with Chomutov.

The interesting thing will that a season like this definitely benefits the "weaker" teams. Any injury is going to have more of an impact than it would with an 82 game season. A team like the Wild (a real hot start) might have been in the playoffs and the Kings (got hot late) may not have been (I'm not 100% sure but let's just play along) if we had the same scenario last year as this year. Kinda crazy to think about, especially with the Kings being the Stanley Cup champions.

The one thing that makes it fine with me is the playoffs. Still have to win 16 games. If you go through the gauntlet known as the NHL playoffs and win 16 games, well then you deserve to win the Stanley Cup.

I've stated for some weeks now.. They should just began the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the same teams that made it in 2012... The Hawks can get some revenge on the Coyotes.

If they get a season it is going to be funky but I would love to see something happen.

NHL makes movement on buyouts, contract length in new proposal to NHLPA

TORONTO - The NHL has softened its demands in key areas of collective bargaining in a new proposal to the NHL Players' Association.
With another season in jeopardy because of a labour dispute, the league tabled a comprehensive offer Thursday night that included compliance buyouts and less restrictive rules on player contracts.

According to sources, the league's proposal calls for a six-year term limit on free-agent deals—up from five previously—and will allow teams to resign their own players for up to seven years. It also includes a provision that salary can vary by 10 per cent from year to year during the course of a deal (the NHL's most recent offer proposed a five per cent variance).

For the first time, the NHL is also willing to offer one-time compliance buyouts to help teams transition from a system that saw players receive 57 per cent of revenues to one that pays them 50 per cent. The league has proposed giving each team one such buyout, with the money counting against the players' overall share in revenue but not an individual team's salary cap.

Deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed the existence of the new offer on Friday, but declined to comment on the details.

"We are hopeful that once the union's staff and negotiating committee have had an opportunity to thoroughly review and consider our new proposal, they will share it with the players," Daly said in a statement. "We want to be back on the ice as soon as possible."

The NHLPA's negotiating committee and executive board was scheduled to hold an internal conference call on Friday afternoon to discuss the offer.
According to sources, the league's proposal was comprehensive and included a number of the smaller issues that the sides discussed throughout the summer. It also put the US$300 million in deferred transition payments back on the table—something it had previously withdrawn when talks broke down on Dec. 6.
Negotiations have been at a standstill since then. In the meantime, the only movement has come from within the union as players voted to give their executive board the right to file a "disclaimer of interest" until Jan. 2. The 30-member committee is still pondering that decision.

The NHL and NHLPA have made no plans to meet face-to-face again.

The 104-day lockout has seen all regular-season games cancelled through Jan. 14 and it's believed a deal needs to be reached by that point to salvage a 48-game schedule—the minimum commissioner Gary Bettman says must be played.

There definitely seems to be a soften of rhetoric from the NHL. That has me hopeful, but I think I am going to get burned for feeling that way.
