No it won't. It will merely affirm what we already know about Ryan Poles. When Poles had a guy he does stupid things. Claypool Davis Bates Leatherwood Johnson time and time again Poles develops a man crush on a football player and sets the Bears back.
You're not all wrong but you're using stupid examples. Claypool, sure. There was reportedly stiff competition in the trade market for him so we needed to offer a 2nd that the Steelers thought would be more valuable than the Packers' and then the wheels fell off to make it the 33rd overall pick. Poles certainly does seem to be a traits-based guy and Claypool was loaded with traits.
Davis wasn't overpaid or anything, he just sucked for whatever reason. I don't remember seeing Poles being "in love with Nate Davis." Bates is just a backup but he did overpay for him and Leatherwood was a dart throw.
A point against the narrative is how Cunningham convinced Poles to stand pat when he otherwise wanted to trade up for Odunze. At the end of the day, that's on Poles' record as hanging back and still getting his guy.
Jeanty isn't an outlier when it comes to size or speed so I wonder how much truth there is to Poles/Johnson's burning desire for him. And hopefully Poles learned from waiting on Odunze to not trade-up for Jeanty.
