Who bats behind Pena again? Soriano. Kind of interesting how Soriano has just as many RBI as Pena does, yet can't seem to drive Pena in more often than he has. BTW, what's the excuse for scoring almost as often per PA as Byrd? Byrd has even worse RBI guys behind him than Pena does. Byrd has scored once every 8.9 PA this year... Pena: 8.7. Byrd OBP: .339... Pena:.346. RBIs for the guy hitting directly behind Pena (Soriano) 68, for Byrd (Soto) 43.
I will concede that the reason that Barney has scored on a better pace per PA is because of ARam. But ARam has a .354 OBP... and has only scored 67 times because of the fact that neither Pena nor Soriano can come through with RISP.
If this were just a Cubs phenomenon, I'd chalk it up as Pena being on a bad team in a bad spot to take advantage of his walks. However, this has been the case with Pena everywhere. The only times he's had over 100 Runs in his career have been when he hit 45 and 36 HR... which speaks for well over 40% of his runs right there. Nearly half of his runs this year have come via his own HR.
