Again thats not very good. Its cause he K's or walks with guys on base. How does that help?

.239 is better than Jose Bautista's .220 in RISP. Guess he isn't a middle of the order of the hitter.

What I've always said, I would love to have him. He is a great player right now and for the next several seasons. I worry that the pitching sucks and won't get better on its own. And thats signing Fielder will mean they will have to bandaid the rotation which will make the rotation and bullpen bad again.

Bullpen really hasnt been bad. Only down spot has been Marmol. So its ok to put a bandaid over 1B for the next 3-4 years? I have shown after this FA that 1B FA SUCKS while SP FA is going to be around. Again Fielder is a SUPERSTAR while Wilson is a good pitcher. Not even a top 20 SP in the league. So i take the Superstar over a SP that you can fill within the next 2 years. You cant fill 1B with a Superstar like Prince.

Differnce is that Bautista has about 15 more HR then Pena. Bautista also prolly hits more sac fly's, hits GB to get the guy in from 3B. Assuming thats why his RBI are SO MUCH higher

So a steady down hill. Shows me he cant hit in RBI situations. Dont want that in my lineup.

Yep we got to get rid of him because he has suddenly lost the ability to hit with RISP.

YES!!! Fisch stats show that his walks dont help the team anyways. He has no speed and just clogs the bases. I want my 1B to be a RBI guy. He has proven he is not.

Fine you are right. Pena and Soriano are the same player because only one stat is different and if everything is the same except for one stat that makes you the same player.

And you are right that runs accurately reflect the value of a player and isn't influenced at all about the hitters behind them. And that perhaps why Barney might have scored more runs is that he has gotten to hit in front of guys like Ramirez and Pena.

Who bats behind Pena again? Soriano. Kind of interesting how Soriano has just as many RBI as Pena does, yet can't seem to drive Pena in more often than he has. BTW, what's the excuse for scoring almost as often per PA as Byrd? Byrd has even worse RBI guys behind him than Pena does. Byrd has scored once every 8.9 PA this year... Pena: 8.7. Byrd OBP: .339... Pena:.346. RBIs for the guy hitting directly behind Pena (Soriano) 68, for Byrd (Soto) 43.

I will concede that the reason that Barney has scored on a better pace per PA is because of ARam. But ARam has a .354 OBP... and has only scored 67 times because of the fact that neither Pena nor Soriano can come through with RISP.

If this were just a Cubs phenomenon, I'd chalk it up as Pena being on a bad team in a bad spot to take advantage of his walks. However, this has been the case with Pena everywhere. The only times he's had over 100 Runs in his career have been when he hit 45 and 39 HR... which speaks for well over 40% of his runs right there. Nearly half of his runs this year have come via his own HR.

:umad:

It doesn't do much for a guy like Pena to get on base if he can't steal or even break up a double play.

So to be clear the reason you don't want Pena around next year is because he doesn't put up the RBI numbers you want, hits poorly in RISP and all of his numbers except BB and OBP are similar to Soriano this year?

Or am I adding things at this point...

I say the Cubs should have never signed Pena, and put Colvin at first this year.
