Pauly will be a hot name around the deadline.
Eh, maybe. There's still a lot of power floating around the league at first base, much of it to be had for a lot less than Konerko and his contract. The thing is, if a team were to be interested in acquiring Paulie, would what the Sox get in a rent-a-player deal be worth what they could potentially get by offering him arbitration and getting the draft picks if he declines?
Konerko still has a few years left in the league, probably, so he would most likely turn down arb and seek a sunset cruise deal elsewhere; and if his production stays roughly the same, the Sox could be looking at two extra first round picks.
So unless the package offered for him is too good to believe, I'd say leave him on the roster, offer him arbitration at the end of the year, then collect the draft picks when someone like the Angels or Cubs sign him.
