I don't disagree with you at all but this means that both Chapman and Jansen get considerably more than this. So much for keeping salaries down like I was speculating. Doh.

As I said, pitching is king still.

What? What does this even mean? A pitcher was over paid so it means something? Pitching is very important in the league. So is hitting.

And what the White Sox are asking for is far from an overpay, but whatevs.

I think they have him valued correctly if the rumors that they're looking for 3 top 100 players with 2 being top 50 and 1 being the club's #1 prospect, but despite that being his value that could still be an overpay depending on the club. If you're Boston, for example, does giving up Benintendi, Devers and Kopech feel like an overpay to you? It would to me despite it being a fair ask and I'm not positive the White Sox accept that as they've been fixated on Moncada. Ditto their insistence on Swanson from Atlanta. Value and worth can be two different things.

I'm not sure those guys get that much more (maybe Chapman does) because Melancon didn't have a first attached him. and to be fair to those guys, they likely should get more - they're several years younger and they have better ability to get multi inning saves or pitch in leverage.

If this is what the closer market is going towards, I'd say that the move for teams like the Cubs is buy specialists and try and mismatch as much as you can late. Maybe a guy like Edwards (former starter, multiple pitches) develops in to your Jansen/Chapman type. Strop and Rondon are great inning specialists who are likely to be gone in a year.

I find it hard to believe that the Marlins are considered the frontrunner for Jansen right now but that's apparently the case.

It's another example of what has been happening the past two off seasons.

What is the value/worth of Sale? Tons. Is it worth that to another team like Boston? I think clearly and it affects them very little off of the main roster which is set for several years. It affects a team like Texas much more which hurts the value/worth of Sale to them.

Are we really still arguing about Sales value? Has that not been beaten to death already? I mean it's really pretty simple. The White Sox want a lot and the other teams aren't going to pay what they want or a trade would already have happened. So, until they come down in price it's a moot point.

Or until a team ups their offers the White Sox might stay on the line.

That will help SF's bullpen but I think they'll need more than him. They will live to regret signing Shark to that big deal -- if they haven't already.

Samardzija wasn't awful for them at all and he pitched 203 innings 3.81 ERA, 3.85 FIP, 2.6 WAR. His value per WAR more or less matched his first year performance. That said I'm still glad the Cubs signed Lackey instead for less money and fewer years. Lackey outperformed Samardzija by 1/2 a win at $3 mil less for the season.

My favorite teams
  1. Colorado Rockies
  1. Atlanta United FC
  1. Los Angeles Lakers
  2. Orlando Magic
  3. Phoenix Suns
  4. Sacramento Kings
  1. Columbus Blue Jackets
Per ESPN: Aroldis Chapman to me on whether the Cubs have reached out: "The Cubs have never expressed any interest in resigning me, as far as I know."

Chapman: "The only thing I have expressed is that I would like a six-year contract. I know that doesn't mean that I will get it, but that's what I would like to sign. There are rumors out there that I requested $100 million and that's not true at all. I believe he who deserves something, does not need to demand it."
