Via Chuck Garfien on Twitter, Jerry Reinsdorf recently explained why the asking price on Chris Sale has been, so far, too high for any team to match. In short, Reinsdorf suggests that the Sox will only move Sale if they’re receiving not one, not two, not three, but FOUR can’t miss prospects in return. Let me first say that I’m not sure any organization has four prospects who can’t possibly miss, because that’s just not an easy thing to have at any one time (and is any prospect truly “can’t miss”?). Of course, if he considers young, cost-controlled players already at the Major League level a number of teams could enter the race, but then you wouldn’t ever get four of those types in return anyway.

.... that seems ENTIRELY reasonable...

don't mind Davis but do mind getting him (especially alone) in a trade for a guy like Soler.

Bryce Harper early talks is he wants over 10 years and over 400 million dollars. lol This is very real and the Nats were said to be shocked that this was his starting point.

Rangers supposedly interested in Soler. One name that's interesting is Keone Kela. Similar to Soler he's a high talent guy who hasn't put it all together. But he has lots of team control left and "closer stuff" from what the Rangers reporters say down here.

Watching him run a baseball team with zero purpose or process for 10+ years has been fun but now I just feel bad that for Sox fans, he's not going to try and go out and buy a title ala the Tigers, he's just hoping that the Sox win some super rare world series. He could drastically set up the team for the future with a reasonable price for Sale but he won't because he knows he's unlikely to see the fruits of that trade.

I don't think you trade 1 for 1 like that for a reliever. If the Rangers want to add more to it maybe but young pitching that's not proven is fairly dicey and he's not even a starter.

Never said they should. Just said it's an interesting name.

He was very good in 2015 but had a bone spur in 2016.

Probably a fair price for him with a AL team that can hide his aging towards the end but I could see the reason why he would demand it.

Oh I know you weren't. Just saying my feelings on the idea of him. I could see a deal like Kela and Yohander Mendez making sense to the cubs. Cubs lack upper minors LHP and you'd be essentially buying a younger starer who has similar value to Soler.

That would be something worth considering.

Looks like they're serious about Wade too according to Rosenthal. Would be a nice pickup but really don't want them to overpay.

Woe to the GM that gives "Hype" Harper that kind of contract.

My favorite teams

  1. Atlanta United FC
  1. Los Angeles Lakers
  2. Orlando Magic
  3. Phoenix Suns
  4. Sacramento Kings
  1. Columbus Blue Jackets
Cubs have a great chance of repeating in 2017. So I'd be okay with trading Soler for Wade.

Once the Cubs get their TV money, they will be able to buy whomever. Trading a few prospects away at this point does nothing to hinder our long term aspirations. But it certainly helps us now.
There is a luxury tax issue Im sure they want to stay within

I find it pretty funny when peeps want to toss away a 24 YO hitter with control until 2020 for a 1 year rental. Pretty amazing.

The Rangers are pretty hot on him to. If they can do a package deal. Controllable Arms coming over for Soler and Candelero I would be fine with it.

What's amazing about wanting to dump a defensive liability that loafs after balls and hits below the average for his position? I'm surprised if any team would want this guy

Victor Robles and Lucas Giolito are suppose to be the centerpiece with them haggling over the final pieces.

Dodgers are going to regret signing Rich Hill if not in 2017 definitely in 2018...
