The Red Sox have acquired Tyler Thornburg from Milwaukee for Travis Shaw, SS Mauricio Dubon and RHP Josh Pennington. I continue to really like what Milwaukee is doing. They're the next NL Central team to make a mark. Whether that's in 2018 or shortly after remains to be seen.

Yeah, it sounds good. We'll see what will happen though. Every one is trying to reproduce our magic. They won't be players in 2017. Could be after that though.

Seems awfully quiet this morning....

The calm before a trade?

Evan Grant ✔ @Evan_P_Grant
Have also heard that, in addition to Jorge Soler, Rangers are doing some checking on Cubs versatile OF Matt Szczur

Lot of background being done. Feels like something could actually happen with Soler + Szczur to the Rangers. Probably has to include Yohander Mendez to make sense to the cubs but the Rangers have some interesting second tier pitching and the cubs and rangers have worked a number of deals.

Mendez is their last real trade chip that will net them anything so if they're thinking some depth for their rotation you would have to think that would be where he'd be used in trade. That said I would agree that he would have to be part of a deal if we're talking multiple players. If it's just Soler they may look at a package of of a couple of other arms but there are no blue chippers in there. Most are highly flawed or very, very young. They may be more apt to look at someone like 2B Andy Ibanez plus one of those iffy arms. Ibanez could provide some middle infield depth in a year or so or become part of another package.

Well technically they still have Profar and Gallo to use for arms later. I'm not super high on either of those guys. Ibanez doesn't make a ton of sense to me because he's 23 and only in AA and he didn't exactly tear the cover off the ball there hitting .261/.318/.391.

Profar has some value but no one knows what Gallo is. Obviously there are indications, not unlike Soler, that he's a so-called "4A" player. I guess the bottom line is that I don't like much in the Rangers system. Beyond Mendez there aren't many players that almost certainly project to MLB. Ibenez is probably one of those but as a bottom of the roster infielder or AAA depth. If they could make Soler for a year of Wade Davis happen, with a couple of ancillary pieces trading teams, that would be my preference.

Chris Sale to Boston for Moncada and Kopeck...

+2 prospects. Honestly more reasonable than I would have expected. Granted Moncada is a huge prospect but I figured the white sox would want at least another top 100 guy. I'm guessing the fact the 2 additional prospects weren't named means they likely aren't top 100.

Victor Diaz is a RHP who was at Boston's Single-A Greenville. Luis Basabe is a 2B/SS also played at Greenville. Both in Chris Sale deal.

Basabe is a top 150 type. Diaz is the sox #30 prospect. Interesting side note here, If we assume the rotation stacks up Price, Sale, Porcello, and Pomeranz you then have 1 slot for Seven Wright, Eduardo Rodriguez and Clay Buchholz. Sox are probably dealing someone and I'd assume it's likely to be Buchholz.

White Sox got hosed on this IMO.

It's honestly right around what I expected. I have been saying it awhile but they were never going to get 4-5 top 100 types. The got Moncada which is clearly quality. Kopech could rise quickly as he's super tools-y. And Basabe is an interesting third piece. It's pretty reasonable. But teams were never going to entirely gut their farm system the way the media portrayed.

I don't think the White Sox got hosed. The market obviously wasn't there for 3 top 100 prospects. Instead they got the game's undisputed #1 prospect and a guy in Kopech that could be a really nice righty fit in that rotation as early as 2018. Add him to Quintana and Rodon and a rebuild piece like Moncada in the middle of the lineup and I think the White Sox come up smelling like roses. Unless they **** something up...

Clearly the Nationals deal was posturing. About the best case scenario as a Cub fan. And that isn't a ton of "super" value if I'm a White Sox fan. There's a lot of risk for tradingin this deal a guy as good and valuable as Sale.

Just competition I think. Trying to get Boston to shit or get off the pot. I like Lucas Giolito a lot but Victor Robles is so young, the White Sox got who they needed to. The question is did they enough of them?

No way the White Sox were offered those two guys and took the Red Sox deal. Maybe they like that group more but it's not better than the National "offer".

Baseball America has him as Boston's #2 prospect.... take it for what it's worth.

Still think they'd have gotten more if the whole world didn't know Sale was gone at these meetings. Sox don't know how to play hard to get.

Out of all those prospects in either the Nats rumor or what actually got done with Boston, Moncada is the best player in either deal.

MLB ranks him at #1 in the game though. Baseball America often differs. Either way he's a hell of a talent. I'm surprised Boston gave him up.
