@JeffPassan: There could be a snag in the Wade Davis-to-the-Cubs deal, according to a source. Never was done and far from a certain thing at this point.

Why I never get excited about deals till its actually a deal..

Like the Bats were getting Sale last night

My guess is it's medicals on Davis.

@Joelsherman1: Hear Wilson Ramos has a 2-yr offer from #Rays and could be close to a decision

This would end any Montero scenario..
Though I think the Cubs prefer keeping him..
I heard earlier they were considering a 3rd catcher as Federowicz is supposed to be signing with another team..I think it was the tigers..

RotoWire News: Ramos' representatives are telling teams he will be back by May as a full-time catcher because the cartilage in his knee remained intact, the Washington Post's Jorge Castillo reports. (11/10/2016)

Not sure that takes the Rays out of the hunt. Plus Montero is sill LH vs Ramos being RH. But yeah it seems more likely the cubs are keeping him cuz there's been basically 0 chatter on the cubs and rays lately.

@Ken_Rosenthal: .@JeffPassan, @Buster_ESPN said #Royals closing in on Davis deal with #Cubs, but CHC would need to be OK with Davis’ medicals to finalize.

Supposedly Washington wants in on Davis...I'm out on any kind of bidding situation.

Not surprising they'd be in on Davis after losing Melancon and they were never going to compete for Jansen/Chapman.

Davis is a good pitcher but feels like you're a year too late there. We're talking 1500+ career (majors/minors).

Think the Cubs are just looking for a 1 yr gap filler here..
Possibly to give Edwards another year

Also why I think they also get someone else in return if it's for Soler and 2 other prospect

Seems like the Nats make more sense. I read the royals wanted to package Cain and Davis. Doing so to the nats would allow them to move Turner back to SS. Feel like they will be more willing to give up more than the cubs.

Robles + 8-12 org guy makes a ton of sense as I highly doubt anyone else gives the Royals a player that good for one year.

Was reading that Jed thought Strop and Rondon needed more time to recover and get readjusted but the play offs happened and every inning was high pressure. So it was kinda a trust issue but more to do with them not having the time vs them falling off.

Push comes to shove Rondon as the closer is fine. He has done fine at it. Edwards is good in high pressure situations.

I still wish they get Jansen or bring Chapman back
But
I know they won't spend that kind of money on them and I don't blame them...

Sources: #Cubs close to acquiring Wade Davis from #Royals for Jorge Soler.

Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan 2m2 minutes ago
Source: While the Cubs/Royals' Wade Davis-for-Jorge Soler trade is "seriously down the road," it is not expected to be completed tonight.

Jorge Soler has been the #Cubs No. 1 trade chip all along, but likely would need more from #Royals than just one year of Wade Davis.

Cubs are at

CL: Rondon
SU:Strop
SU: Edwards

MR Grimm
MR Zastryzny

Long Relief
Duensing

They could add 2 arms to the pen with ease. I'd give them Johnson with Soler if they added Zimmer to Davis.

Could see

Davis in the 9th with Rondon in the 8th. Things get sticky early inning Edwards. Strop in lower pressure situations. Zimmer in early innings with Duensing. Both would be emergency starter status. Rob Z as the situational lefty.

The*Rangers*have also asked the*Cubs*about*Matt Szczur, Grant*tweets. The 27-year-old Szczur batted .259/.312/.400 while playing all three outfield positions for the Cubs last season. He might be a better fit on a team like the Rangers that’s currently a bit short on established outfielders, rather than one like the Cubs who have plenty.

People got to slow down on Rob Z as "for sure" in the bullpen or in any sort of reliable roll. Sure he was ok in September but he's a 4A arm type at the moment who is still not even a top 15 arm in the organization. Tough to judge guys in Iowa for ERA/FIP cause that league is so offense heavy but I think we can say a lefty who throws 91-94 and has trouble locating with no real plus off-speed pitch isn't some "sure thing" guy in the bullpen. If he earns it, sure.
