Few things:

Him dropping to 98 mph after 3 strait outings? Really? and pitchers don't go through fatigue?

Pretty weak sauce dislike excuse.

Abuse issues? Last I checked he was punished for it and regretted it. So **** him anyways? We got what we wanted so kick rocks you loser?

That is what I'm hearing.

What I've also heard was he connected with the Cubs.

Cash man wants him back.

That is 2 teams that it worked out with and had positive results.

So just admit it to your self. You don't like the guy and will find any excuse to point out how the Cubs are better off with out him.

Chapman and Jansen are the same age. Their numbers are nearly identical. They are very likely to get the same money. Personally, because of his extreme reliance on velocity with very little movement I think Chapman is a bigger risk particularly 3 years down the road when the velo decreases. Jansen relies less on velocity and more on a nearly unhittable cutter. Same results but inevitable decline is less likely to affect performance. That all said if Theo and company feel that for whatever reason Chapman is the better target then I trust them.

Are you saying the Cubs owe Chapman some sort of loyalty and should bring him back because of that?

So just admit it to your self. You don't like the guy and will find any excuse to point out how the Cubs are better off with out him.

All anyone has said is that there legitimate baseball reasons that Chapman might not be the best use of the Cubs' FA dollars. There are also some legitimate organizational reasons for not wanting to sign Chapman to a long term contract. Your strawman is just bizarre.

If I'm the Cubs and I have the resources, I re-sign Chapman. I think going for Jansen is "over thinking" the issue a bit. Chapman was a stud for us. He's a physical specimen. Something about Jansen comes off as "over weight reliever that eventually breaks down."

In either case. Chapman was extraordinary for us and really bought into Maddon and the clubhouse.

Re-sign him and move forward. Unless I'm missing where Chapman doesn't want to re-sign with the Cubs I don't quite understand the need or want to move on from him.

Maybe that he turned down 4 years 15 million per year.

The Cubs traded for him right?

I'm re-signing Chapman and taking my chances. Chapman is talented enough some team will take the risk on if it goes south. The Cubs have more money than God to play with right now. They can afford a risk.

If the link is true you're paying essentially the same money for Jansen or Chapman.

No, that will be in 2019 when the TV contract is up. Also, I like the they have a lot of money, take a risk. That usually works out terrible.

Well, he would've been an idiot had he signed that contract. All he had to do was wait three months to sign for 50% more money on the FA market.

He turned that down....a guy who throws about 70 innings all year, playoffs included. That's like $215,000 per inning, $70,000+ per out.....and that's not good enough.

Something is wrong with that picture.

Thats fine. I dont want him signing with us for it. Something about that guys screams not giving a shit once he is paid. I also didnt like that he couldnt come in during innings because he sucks at it. What was it? 7 of 9 inherited base runners scored or some shit.

When the deal went down, it was pretty much accepted that he was coming here as a rental. He turned out to be a very successful rental...the deal accomplished what it was intended to do. I think they should leave it at that and move on. Relying solely on high heat is dangerous ground...

What we gave up, I thought we should have went after Miller. But, I read that the Yankees were much higher on Indians stud prospect than Torres.

Some of those were impossible situations. Bases loaded nobody out against a good playoff team? No pitcher in the history of the game is going to get out of that inning unscathed with regularity. If you get out of that with only one run given up it's nearly a damn miracle.

There were more runner on second type scenarios than bases loaded type.

Edit: This isnt saying he is not a good closer. I just dont want to pay him what he wants.

The ask for Miller was Schwarber plus some. Would you have made that trade?

Then pay him more.

I already covered the money in a previous post.

Thanks for not reading.

You've seen what the link said we'd pay for Jansen right?
