Threats online, using each others real names, talking about wives........thank GOD cbmb is over here.
Kathi McDonald was a big part of the 70s touring scene as a back up singer for Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, Delaney & Bonney and the Rolling Stones and appeared on over 150 albums. She is one of the reasons I love the call/response style of music. Etta James said she was her favorite singer. There has been a petition for 5 years for her inclusion in the R&R hall of fame. It will be tough to find a more powerful female voice

At the time Kathi and Janis Joplin were contemporaries. People would say to Kathi that "you sound like Janis Joplin" which used to piss off Kathi and she would say that Janis sounded like her.
Fact is that Kathi was a much more experienced singer and well rounded and Janis was more famous. The ironic part is that after Joplin died Kathy joined the Big Brohter band and sang Janis' songs for 2 years
I wasn't going to bring up Janis for this reason. I also think Janis was a druggie slob and very overrated.

McDonald's voice is that of an experienced singer with plenty of intonations, unlike the ridiculous runs of many modern singers that havent really honed their craftJoplin's voice is like a combination of cigarettes, burnt coffee grounds and Everclear. Abrasive on every count.
McDonald sounds a lot more like a punchier Carole King to me.
Janis Joplin was a truck stop whore dirty hippie.
I kind of like the Bee Gees.
