lol, I never would have thunk it myself, but I kind of enjoy their melodies when they come on the radio while I am tail-gating the person in front of me in traffic. They reduce my road rage.

I also enjoy Fleetwood Mac. Lindsey Buckingham is underrated as a guitarist. And Stevie Nicks... I would bang that witch

I don't have an issue with 'mac, or Buckingham for that matter. The Gibb brothers were simply just too "poppy" and over produced for my tastes.

Very similar circumstance as to why I love a lot of the Beatles' music (individually and as a whole); yet can't really respect any of them as musicians. There is just too much of their career (and many others in that same time-frame) that can be contributed to the "modern" phenomenon of excessive production.

I don't know, most people would probably describe me as a Ivory Tower type musician. But that designation doesn't particularly offend me in any way.

I can be pretty snotty about music and also totally agree with you about the Beatles. But the Bee Gees snag me somehow. I'm not proud of that fact! I find some of their music to be subtly melancholic once you get past the falsetto

That's fine brother, just be aware of the reason behind a constant stream of neggs will be due to your Gibbs love. :fist:

Like I said, I tend to be "Ivory Tower" with my preferences. Imogen Heap is fucking awesome:

I wonder if she was thinking of Laurie Anderson's "O, Superman" when she recorded that.

Or some Opeth?

Simply excellent musicians all around. (but I can't emphasis Steve Wilson's contributions enough [one of the few 'producers' I maintain a high level of respect for]).

That wouldn't surprise me at all. Good call! One of few differences would be that Heap concentrates on live-looping so that she can reproduce her recordings while preforming. (obviously not available in Laurie's prime).

Edit: And yes, I'm aware of early tape-looping, that was all pre-recorded to be performed with rather than "live-looped."

I dig Opeth.

Also, Laurie's obituary for Lou Reed was pretty touching

They're too mellow for my taste (which is saying something for a Floyd devotee). They've always reminded me of a late Type-O band without the nuts of of Peter Steele; very similar instrumentation, decent musicians, but completely lacking any sort of "edge," if you will. (which, although I despise most of the early Type-O "punk" albums, they did some great shit eventually).

That's pretty much my problem with most "pro-metal" bands currently; they're virtually nothing but "pop-metal" with no real message.

Eh, I've always loved her version, but I can't say it's the "only" version I'll ever need. I love the Animals' iteration simply because Alan Price was a fucking stud (and being an organist/pianist it thusly holds a special place in the cockles of my heart).

Are you one of these people who turns their nose up at any band that's sold more than ten thousand albums? I know a lot of folks like that. They put their list of favorite albums of the year on Facebook and it's all obscure bands nobody has heard of. They just want to come across as hipster types who only listen to cool unknown bands and automatically think everything on a major label sucks.

I've been playing guitar for 24 years and I'm the polar opposite of that. I like tons of heavily produced music by world famous commercial artists. 99.9% of the time, I can tell within 20 seconds why most of these hipster indie bands aren't well known.

(Not accusing you of being one of these types, just asking if you are)
