I was just perusing the Steelers boards and ran across this stat:

JUSTIN FIELDS --- Last 17 games --- 4200 yards passing, 33 TD's and a 92 passer rating!

WOW!!! Even better than I thought!

Also, Steeler fans truly want JF. I mean, like, they are all over the idea of bringing him back and giving him the keys. I like it but.... I dont like that roster. He needs more weapons and a better Oline than they currently have. Also, as much as I like Tomlin he can be a little trigger happy. Tomlin has got back up a little to give him some room to grow. If JF decides to sign with them, hopefully they do that (give him room) and open up the playbook.

If they open it up a little and add a few weapons, teams will have to pick their poison!
Steelers fans like fiction.

Fields has 3,600 yards passing in his last 19 games as QB.

But if the team he chose to play for just had a better OL and more weapons.....and endless patience.....

He's a Jet but I watched this video earlier and the beat reporters had a ton of respect for how Justin carried himself and his demeanor.

There's no point in Justin giving the Steelers a sweetheart deal - Tomlin didn't do Justin any favors by benching him for Russell and they're trying to play hardball by pitting Justin and Russell against each other in the negotiation before FA hits.

Just go to the Jets and call it unless Pittsburgh pays big.

The real issue wasn't benching Justin for Russ as that was part of the agreement they had with Russ. The issue was not going back to Justin when the offensive staff called for it late in the season when they got stagnant. Arthur Smith took it to Tomlin what they were thinking and he decided to stick with Russ. Again, he doesn't like to change and it wasn't that Russ was struggling. This has been Tomlin's way for years. Once he gets someone he feels hasn't necessarily hurt them, he will continue with them.

Tomlin veto'd the coaches when they thought they could at least try going back to Justin.

He's got about 3300 passing yards and 20 passing TDs in his last 17 games.

Yes. This is what I’ve read from multiple sources.

The Vikings would be taking a huge gamble that JJ turns into an elite QB, if they allow Darnold to walk.
True but they need to find out. Darnold is not a destination.

It's honestly less risky than sticking with Darnold.

Sam Darnold is not leading any team to a Super Bowl. It's not going to happen.

You have to see if JJ McCarthy can be that guy. If not after a few years, onto the next guy. Thus is the way.

Don't stick with guys you know aren't the answer. Ever, ever, ever. "But what if---" No, never.

Darnold is average. He has a good year in a good offense. But he is butt under pressure and doesn't do well when the lights get bright.

The New York Jets have their top target at the quarterback position in sight ahead of free agency.

“I think Justin Fields is the No. 1 target,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic said on the “Flight Plan” podcast. “A lot of reporters, local and national, have said it’s probably the Jets or the Steelers [in the Fields sweepstakes]. I don’t think they are the only ones that are interested but I think it’s going to come down to whether Fields wants to re-up with the Steelers.”

Did not have time to research it, just posted what was being reported. As I mentioned in my post, the numbers seemed little high - better than I thought. But then again, if you add rushing stats to those numbers Pitt fans on that board might be pretty close.

Yep, that is the danger — Tomlin digging in on a decision that not favor him. He has to get a ton of ironclad assurances first before doing a deal with them. Very risky. Safer path would likely be going to the Jets.

Lots of things for JF to consider. All of this will likely be answered within the first few days of free agency.

I can 100% see the Steelers draft Dart after getting Fields signed. Jets is the safer option.

Jets are trying to trade up for cam ward too, they just don't have the inside track. I'd be shocked if they don't draft a qb if they sign fields

Probably in 2nd or 3rd round like Howard or Milroe. Not a big investment and Fields a shot to win starting job. Why be underpaid going back to the Steelers who will do the same thing? Might as well get the cheddar.
