It's very hard to find outdoor courts that have a full court. There's a park by my house that has a nice half court, but I don't know one that has a full court. I am going to assume this requirement is due to playing full court 5 v 5? If it's 3 on 3 like what I hear the first game was, then half court would be fine I would imagine, but if full court's what you play then I'm fine with that. Courts by my house also are hardly ever crowded...but that's really irrelevant because I don't think that you're all going to end up going there. I know of several parks in Buffalo Grove that have courts, however I don't know what the conditions are since I have never been there myself. In the end I guess Schaumburg will be the place to be. The one advantage I see to playing outdoors is that 1) from my experience they're less crowded that indoor courts and 2) they're free :)

Well there's my spiel. Again, as the organizer I leave the final decision to you.

I think we want full court because it's nice to have the option to play full court (if we have at least 8 we play full) and because it's more likely to find space, and most half courts that aren't full courts don't have full sized half courts. We definitely need the full spacing of legit 3 point lines and space, because a lot of the guys are good 3 point shooters and we need the spacing.

As I said, I'm up for playing anywhere. I only know of the one nice place to play in Lombard that has good courts and isn't crowded. I know of one place in Schaumburg, but the rims are a little low after they resurfaced it, and it's usually packed on weekends.

When you say 3pt line do you mean standard high school/college or an NBA 3pt line. I would imagine the former, but some clarification would be nice.

If it is the former, then if the courts in Buffalo Grove are like the ones in Vernon Hills, they will have a 3pt line and what seems like a legit half court. From my experience 4v4 half court isn't that bad. 5 on 5 will definitely warrant full court and I will see if any place in the area has such an outdoor court.

Okay, so this is what I got so far.

We are not playing at YMCA after this Sunday.

We can play outside but it needs to be nicely painted with 3pt line and a good rim with unbroken Net.

It should not be crowded during weekends.

Right now, there is 1 that meets this criteria and as Doug mentioned, it's in Lombard (too far for us North 'Burb people).

There are quiet a few that meets this criteria by Mundelein/Vernon Hills/Libetyville area but it would be as far for everyone else as it would be for us to go to Lombard.

We need to find this type of Court, somewhere in the middle (Buffalo Grove, Palatine, etc).

Okay, give me a week or two and I will definitely find a place that would be somewhat halfway in the center for all of us.

So far the only outdoor courts I've found in Buffalo Grove are in parks. I don't know the conditions of these parks as I've never been to any of them. So far Google hasn't helped me in my search. Maybe I'll get lucky, or Raj can find something.

Just to be clear, i don't live in north Chicago, I live on the north side of Chicago. Not that it makes a difference.

Also, if at all possible do you think you guys can find an indoor place? Just an effort to be kinder to my knees. Not a deal breaker, I'll be there regardless, just a suggestion.

Thus far all the indoor places I know of are either A) in the Libertyville/Vernon Hills/Mundelein area and would thus be too far for some people or B) expensive to get into. Again we'll see if Raj can find something that suits your needs.

As for your 3pt line, how about we just make half court a 3pt shot for you?

I'll see what I can do on an indoor place and check some of the park district buildings.

I sent out the email for this weekend, it's my daughter's birthday so I can't play until 3pm. It's also the last time we'll be able to play at the Y most likely, so we'll have to find a new spot after that.

I hope your daughter had a great birthday Doug.

Weren't you guys going to pose in the new bullsbeat t-shirts? I'm still looking forward to both seeing the t shirts and also seeing a pic of all the guys I've been listening to for a year.

We should do that, I keep forgetting to bring the shirts.

We can do the Y for at least one more session, and I think I may be taking a new job and if so then I'll be keeping the Y membership.

I want to apologize to everyone for not coming to play yesterday. I had to go to my other home in Niles (unexpected) as something came up and I had forgotten my phone home so couldn't call either.

Really a sincere apology :)

Hey Doug, I hope it was a blast on your Daughter's Birthday.

Regarding the Basketball gym/court, I hope we can keep playing at the Y, but if not, I will go look for couple of places somewhere between Palatine and Buffalo Grove. I will post it here what I find.

Hoping to play next time (and hoping nothing comes up at the last moment)

I had a really good time playing with everyone yesteday. Not as good of a time remembering how out of shape I am and how terrible my shot is... none the less I am looking forward to the next go around and meeting the folks who couldn't make it out this week.

Oh, and by far and away my favorite part was DT's Brad Miller-like pump fake and drive.... just a thing of beauty.

did you forget a piece t-shirt(white one) at the Y? I grabbed it because I assumed it was yours.

Also, I think we need to invest in a giant dust mop, seriously. As someone whose game (or lack thereof) is predicated on being able to drive, its oh so frustrating. I think i'd take fewer ridiculous 3's if there was a bit more traction. Maybe :)

Totally agree on the traction part. That has made me nothing but a steve kerr out there - just jack up 3's all game long coz I am slipping, sliding everywhere I try to make a move. Also it has affected my defense by a large margin.

I wish we had another gym around there that was as empty as well as with better traction.
