Dunkirk...

There's not much of a narrative but it is an entertaining film.

War for the Planet of the Apes 4.5/10

The cinematography and CGI are real good. The actual story drags and is as lame as can be. Too much of the apes. A lot of time painting them as saints. They even take a little girl, left on her own, with them. A cute little thing who can't talk because the vaccine for the simian virus caused another stronger strain of the virus that further affects human's brains and takes away their speech. The Colonel is a real bad guy who has gone off the deep end. So this is your classic really really really good guys (apes actually) against the really really really evil guys as the movie asks us to root against our own species.

Other movies you might like:

Contagion (screwball comedy) Low brow but fun. 6/10 syringes
Vaccines — Calling the Shots (sci-fi adventure) Great CGI, weak story. 7/10 syringes
The Greater Good (espionage thriller) Predictable joy ride. 5/10 syringes
Silent Epidemic: The Untold Story of Vaccines (porno) Hard core, not for everyone. 9/10 syringes
Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe (art house indie drama) Hard to follow but the end makes it worth while. 10/10

It's all fun and games til mankind is ruined by vaccines.

Or climate change, which is an actual thing. Either way I guess.

Ghost In The Shell: 6.75/10
Movie was pretty awesome and the 3D is top notch. ScarJo excels in these types of roles, she's an ultra hot robot.

Atomic Blonde 6/10

I never read the graphic novel nor even knew this was based on one until it popped up on screen. It was just something my girl wanted to see. Charlize Theron was pretty good in the role. It also had some cool action scenes. I thought the story telling was meh

Just saw Atomic Blonde. 4/5. Highly stylized, fun period piece of a spy flick. Sort of a poor man's Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Still enjoyed it thoroughly.

And I like it better than Spiderman, which really got boring in spite of Michael Keaton. 2.5/5.

Will watch the former again, but not the latter.

Ghostbusters (2016) - 4/5
So I recorded it on a free weekend and watched it over a couple of days. I expected pure trash, and in the beginning I was not disappointed. Pure Trash. But then I kinda just put aside how great the first movie was and just let myself veg out.

I loved the cameos from former members to the firehouse.

I was entertained and even though I kept seeing SPICEY in McCarthy, I would say I did not waste my time.

ND is horrible.
Dunkirk...

Meh, 6.5/10; casting nearly identical guys for one of the plot lines wasn't that bright. Ok, hyperbole, but honestly, I had no idea who was drowning/dying/escaping for like 30 mins of the movie. Then again, I did watch the movie in a POS neighborhood theater in Edgewater/Rogers Park.

Dunkirk is alright, anyone calling it one of the best war films ever has left the reservation.

There are some Great War movies.

Some I liked a lot, BoB (series of course), Saving Private Ryan, We were Soldiers, Twelve O'Clock High, Platoon (I know, but I liked it), A Bridge to Far, Patton, The Bridge over river Kwai, Blackhawk Down, The Longest Day, All Quiet on the Western Front.
Honorable mention to movies with war references, Forrest Gump, Deer Hunter.
Just to name a few.
(Should also mention MASH, my all time favorite show)

But to be honest... war movies lose something once you've been in one.

To me the most complete and at the same time seemingly effortless (under 90 mins long) war film is Paths of Glory.

There is no depth to Dunkirk, it raises no moral questions, no dilemmas, and the fact that the German soldiers are never shown makes it that much easier to miss the horrors of war while you're watching it. It's as if ghosts, God, or nature is the antagonist in Dunkirk, not other human beings.

It's pretty and unique, but has very little substance.
