Just watched Logan again.
Depressing.

Things I liked- The badass little girl was not over the top... Much like wonder woman. most movies with a Badass woman do it poorly- their "badass attitude" it reeks of overcompensation... like the director thinks her actions are not enough to define her (see black widow and scarlet witch)
She does what she does like it comes natural to her.

Seamless use of future technology- self driving trucks, harvesters in the field... good background additions that were not jammed in your face that paint the picture of the time they live in without saying "hey, look at the new technology! that tells you it is in the future!!!"

The mention of Marvel comic books- a pretty meta concept.

All in all, a pretty decent wrap up of the story- It does a good job of pointing out that Logan cannot go on- his path is ending. Rather than waste away in solitude, he does one last good thing.
It also seems very in character- The reluctant hero that steps in and does what needs to be done, not because he really wants to, but because he knows that it wont get done without him.

8 of 10. would have been higher, but- depressing.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Gallipoli and King Rat were pretty decent and entertaining war movies that I can watch any time they are on.

I second Paths of Glory, but without the pretentiousness.

Ivan's Cildhood. A lot of very good Russian and German war movies.

Then there is La Grande Illusion, which is set during war, but is more than a war movie.

The mention of King Rat got me thinking, has no one mentioned The Bridge on the River Kwai? That is one of the best war movies ever. Could be an eye opener for some young people to learn that the guy that played Obi-Wan Kenobi was actually a great actor.

They'd be among the worst for me. Way too political and self serving by the Directors.

Dunkirk 9/10

Great film. I recommend seeing this in IMAX, it was a great experience. I liked how the film didn't focus on one area and switched between ground, sea and air.

Emoji movie 1/10

Only saw this because my girl wanted to take her 6 year old cousin. I went in, based on things I'd heard, thinking I was about to see an absolute abomination and it ended up being slightly better than I expected. I think there could be something worse. That being said, this movie is still a pile of shit.

Saw The Dark Tower.

Kind of conflicted on it. As an action type movie, it was good. I went with someone who had not read the books and it was an easily digestable single serving movie that was understandable to someone with zero knowledge of the story.
McConaughey and elba were excellent in their roles.

However, If you read the books, There were massive issues. Of course you cannot cram a series of novels in to one movie.
The single most glaring and unforgivable issue was the motivation of Roland. He was solely driven by vengence. The point was made repeatedly that he abandoned being a gunslinger. For those that read the books, He was a Gunslinger above all else, and his quest to save the tower was literally the only thing of importance to him.
It minimized his character.

If you can forget the source material and just go to see a good action movie, I will give it 7 of 10.

They should have made at least 2 movies. Read all the books.

Then you would be let down by the flick if you are looking for something similar. Pretty much a complete different story.

The way I went about it was this- after reading the books, you know the deal on what happens in the end. what he discovered as he walked through the door.
I decided I would view it as one of the earliest of his attempts. Once I did that, everything was perfectly acceptable. After all, the route he took would have led to the same outcome as the book- but much further away. Still in the infancy of the quest and not even close to worthy.

Bobby Jones Stroke of Genius 5/5

I wasn't sure if Caviezel was doing a great job or not acting in the movie until I read up on Bobby Jones. I am convinced it was a great acting job by him. I learned so much about someone I knew so little about. Even with artistic licensing I thought the film was done very well.

I expected a really shitty movie since it's a prequel to a shitty movie, but it was actually a good film.

This movie is why I would never be a multimillionaire if this is what you have to do to become one. I can't eat McDonald's anymore.

Dunkirk: 9/10 Hell of a movie, it does a great job of showing what struggles individuals went through in the evacuation. I recommend it to everybody.
