Never said Bird Man was a great film. Just better than The Revenant. Haven't seen 10 Cloverfield, and have no desire to.

Ok but Birdman was more like bird shit and I think you miss the whole spirt of Revenant. Gut wrenching with a ton of testicular fortitude.

Here's some more soulless shit.

Ridley Scott sucks. Prometheus and The Martian are terrible movies. So overrated. In fact, I don't think Hollywood is capable of making a decent movie about space. Interstellar was also crap. Melodramatic soap opera stories in somewhat remarkable settings. Just terrible stuff. Matt Damon and Matthew Mcconaughey duking it out on an empty planet (Iceland). Hilarious.

Largely agree. The best space movie of the last 10 years or so is a British film called Moon. Partially because space is a backdrop, and not the main character.

No, I didn't miss the point. The point has been made better many times previous to this movie.

Is that the movie where guys in skirts get killed? Maybe I'm thinking about the one where Mel wore a skirt and his buddies ended up dead. Shouldn't wear a skirt to battle.

I would punch you if we were in person. You can talk about me. You can talk about my family. But, you don't ever talk about Braveheart like that again.

I haven't seen that. Is that the one with Sam Rockwell? I've heard Europa Report is worth a watch also, but I'm spaced out for now.

The last film I watched was Requiem for the American Dream, Noam Chomsky. A good concise watch recapping his theories about the erosion of American democracy, and wealth disparity.

Yeah, it's directed by David Bowie's son. Same guy who did Source Code.

I actually just heard of Europa Report for the first time a few days ago when I was specifically searching for low budget Sci-Fi films. Added it to my list but probably wont watch for awhile since it's not streaming any convenient platform for me right now.

Not an action thing, but a drama about one man's indelible spirit with an unbelievable will. Firstly with 2 sides that could not be more obviously divided, he chooses to go against the grain at a time when all others among him know nothing other than going with the grain. There's the eternal father/son bond. The courage and will so strong he could kill the grizzly even as it was clawing and pounding every last bit of life out of his own body. The will to survive afterwards despite the harsh conditions and his body being broken. He hides til he can walk as it's the only hope for survival.

He helps the squaw escape her captors in an act of mercy that will be returned to him at the end of his struggle. The loss of his son eating away at his heart, he needs no more time for treatment or to get well, he has all the will to push through until he can avenge the murder of his son as that is all that he requires as he has nothing else to live for now that he has lost his beloved son.

It's a triumph of the human spirit, brotha.

I get what it was... I just know I've seen it, in that same setting, a number of times before.

There was nothing to Leo or Tom's performances that wowed me... they are well done, but nothing about this film had me on the edge of my seat... no performance of either guy in any scene had me impressed.... I mean half of Leo's scenes were just him made up to have injuries and acting in pain/struggling.

Because the previews clue you in to Leo's son dying and the Bear attack, you know early on... Leo is gonna be hurt, yep, Tom Hardy will kill his son, yep... Leo will survive it all to go after Tom Hardy, yep.... And in the end Leo's character will triumph and get revenge.

At least in The Martian there was triumph of the human spirit but you were not sure how it would all be pulled off lol.

I knew Leo would go down, I knew he would get back up, I knew he would drag himself back to town, I knew he would kill Tom Hardy.

Aren't all movies pretty damn predictable? It's the characters and story line that sell them and that, I guess, is where opinions will vary. For me, they sold it well. For you, not so much. I actually think the opposite of you with the 2 movies you compare. Martian, not so much triumph of the human spirit involved cause it lacked real emotion and was kinda cheesy. An alright movie to watch on kodi or cable but nothing special.

Yes, the Martian with Matt Damon mugging for the log camera (mainly to explain to audiences what he will do, instead of showing it, because, you know, long scenes without dialogue don't propel a story as well as prosaic, expository dialogue does) and joking his way through being stranded alone on Mars, mainly about 70s music, is on par with Jerry Lewis's Way ... Way Out.

Try explaining what happens in this movie to someone who hasn't seen it. If they are not laughing and accusing you of bullshit by the time you get to him lifting off to rendezvous, then cutting a hole in his space suit, then you haven't told it honestly.

Alot of movies are... I guess I just feel like this wasn't more predictable, but seemed to be talked up like it was something special and I got nothing special out of it.

Again I don't find it to be a bad movie, I just didn't find it to be special, and I didn't find Leo or Tom's performances all that special.

I have to admit I naturally liked The Martian more because I find the space genre and especially Mars stuff interesting.... I also enjoy Matt Damon as an actor.

In the same spirit of honesty I do like Leo.... he is a great actor, there just wasn't alot in this performance for me. He moaned/screamed in pain really well doe.

Blood Diamond was one of my favorite Leo performances.

It didn't make me laugh as much as Interstellar with Mcconaughey bawling at vid messages from his family, or the fisticuffs that broke out between him and Damon in Iceland. I was howling.

Or how quickly the crew in The Martian all unanimously agreed to another 2 years in space.

Phenomenal movie and my god probably one of the most brutal films I've ever seen. The arm bar break from the trailer is probably the most pleasant thing that happens to anyone in this movie.
