Seems like the latest buzz is that team's are going to call (theoism) bluff. It looks like the Cubs are going to start him and see if the offers get upped or not.
I don't know if they will go up or not, but that must be what they are banking on because otherwise why risk an injury. It'd be kind of strange to see the offers actually go up but that's probably also dependent on what happens with Hamels and Greinke. It could happen, but paying more for a rental of one start less seems like wishful thinking to me. The Cubs might just cave and take what they can get before having to start him again. Or they just pull Dempster back and hope for that comp round pick. Tough market.
I definitely don't blame opposing GMs for not wanting to pay through the nose for a rental, though.

Again that is why this is so fascinating, but it is looking like that he will start. And the only reason to start him is if you think you can get more later.11th hour. They still have time to fly Dempster out of town.

Or that the offers aren't worth as much as the potential bonus pool for the comp pick and/or the comp pick (whoever it is) himself.
I think we both know that isn't the case, but it seems like Garrett Gould plus is a legitimate offer. And that would seem to worth more than just one pick especially factoring all the risks to get that pick.Just keeping an open mind. If you were an opposing GM, would you sell the farm for Ryan Dempster?
There is no way he can pitch tonight. The Cubs need to be bubble wrapping him and protecting his value. If he gets hurt this is all OVER.
They need to scratch him and take the best offer that comes tonight.
That way they can focus on Garza who is going to be the one who brings back the kings ransom.
Best that they can get. Most Cubs fans are going to be disappointed but won't realize that what the Cubs get in return is fair given all the circumstances.

being picky could burn the cubs

How so?
Not trying to be a dick, honestly...just confused by the statement...do you think some of the teams might pull offers they have for Demp if they're not accepted tonight?
I mean, I guess they could always trade for other pitchers...but...with reportedly 8-10 teams interested in Demp, I'd imagine the best deal hasn't been offered yet anyway...
Really doubt that it sways teams that much, but only because I don't think the sub 2 ERA swayed teams that much either. Teams know what Dempster is which is a solid starting pitcher. If we weren't getting Zach Lee or other top prospects before tonight, I doubt it means the offers are going to disappear with a rough outing against one of the best offensive teams in the league. If Demp has another bad inning like he did the first... teams might start to wonder if we're seeing his rebound back to a descent to good SP rather than a good to excellent SP.
