**** this, Dempster blew it... waiting till the deadline and we'll get nothing, and hurt Garza and Maholm's value as well.
I mean, seriously, what am I supposed to do? Dempster has his family to take care of and his 10/5 rights are intact. He can do whatever he wants no matter how much I curse him for being a turd and scream expletives at the stars. Hell yeah it's disappointing that he didn't just say "yes" and give us a Delgado-level prospect back, but that's his problem. And yes, it is the Cubs' problem too, and it trickles down to Cubs fans too, but hating the guy because he's doing what's best for himself when that doesn't involve genocide or something truly evil just doesn't bug me all that much. Of course I wish he'd GTFO, but there's nothing I can do about it and I intend to keep my blood pressure low
It's frustrating as hell... and honestly, it makes little sense if he's looking at the big picture for the remainder of his career. Sure, it'll separate him from his family... but you know... he's making enough money this year alone to rent an extremely comfortable place in one of the several extremely upscale and nice Atlanta suburbs and move them down there with him.
However, it is his decision... and he's supposedly mulling it over. You do have to respect that, whether you like it or not. It just goes to show, you can't trust Ryan Dempster if you're a FO type in the MLB.
I'm actually surprised at how well Maholm has done, remember his first couple starts he blew and I forgot about him, but I checked him out today while browsing for new fantasy pitchers and he has done surprisingly well
Well, I wouldn't go that far. Dempster was the one who deferred money from his own contract so the Cubs could sign Xavier Nady  And I loved Nady as a college player (we went to Cal at the same time) but man was that a stupid signing.
This kind of fits with Brett at BleacherNation's opinion on the situation in update 11 that I posted earlier. It is grasping a straws to stay positive about getting anything close to Delgado for Dempster, but I need something positive.Jon Heyman reports that the Cubs have re-engaged the Dodgers in talks, which goes along with my theory that they promised Dempster one more shot to get him to his clearly preferred destination. With an offer in tow from the Braves, the Cubs can say, "Can you match this?" or at least, "Can you even come close to matching this?" If that's the case, then maybe Demp goes to LA after all. The Cubs don't have a lot of leverage, but we don't know the whole story here. If Dempster said, "Give it one more effort for LA and if not, I'll take the trade to Atlanta." If that's the case, the Cubs have all the leverage they need. According to the AJC's David O'Brien, the deal is not dead with Atlanta, they have not pulled back their offer.

Obviously Ryan Dempster has been thinking about himself and not the teams involved. It would benefit BOTH the Cubs and Braves if he accepts this deal. I've seen Braves fans on the MLB.com forums who are just as angry as us for this. If Dempster gets his wish, the Dodgers will be the only team to benefit and the Cubs will get the shit end of all this
I'd be prepared for Dempster to pitch tomorrow and maybe even stay as a Cub throughout the rest of the season, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he was on a plane by tomorrow morning with the Cubs doing a bullpen day with the Thursday off-day.
If nothing else, he's had a good enough season thus far to warrant multiple, multi-year offers worth $10M+ per. So, it should be reasonably safe to make him a qualifying offer, then watch another team sign him... netting a comp pick.
