I am shocked by all of this. a comp is NOT enough. I want to know who failed in this. If ATL was on his list he should have accepted a trade, if he only wanted to go to LA he should have stated that from the get go.

I still blame Atlanta for everything.

If it was behind closed doors they could have kept this quiet and he could have declined this without us ever knowing about it. We definitely wish he'd gone but what's done is done. The Cubs probably had the comp pick as their backup plan all along because they knew it would be difficult to convince Dempster to go. It probably turns out that all this was posturing and PR, but the leak changed everything. And now Dempster is a son of a *****. I'm very likely in the 1% who don't really care about this; it's the guy's choice and he'll have to live with it. And the Cubs will have to deal with it too, along with the fans. Is it selfish? Hell yeah. But there's nothing I can do about it so wondering "what if" or calling Dempster a bastard (which I don't think he is) is counterproductive to me.

Move on.

Again I understand the move on position because what good does it to be upset about it. The bolded though is ultimately what gets to me. It is becoming more and more clear that Demp was concerned about his good Cub image, and that him being blindsided was that he was going to lose that image. I don't feel bad for Dempster one iota in this situation.

Food for thought, as the Dodgers may still be suitors (MLBTR):

The Dodgers are in on a number of starting pitchers, including Nolasco, Blanton, Kevin Millwood, and Jason Vargas in addition to Ryan Dempster and Matt Garza.

Albeit with lesser leverage for Dempster, possibly more for Garza.

What an asshole, lost a ton of respect for Demster. He's not looking out for the Cubs at this point he's looking out for himself while trying to give off the idea that he care's about helping the Cubs out. He will be booed in Wrigley.

This all could have happened without us knowing. But since Atlanta leaked it, we all know that Dempster lied and actually only wants to go to the Dodgers. So Dempster would have been a dick anyways, but now everybody knows about it. It also exposed how close the Cubs got to getting Delgado. With our luck, he'll become a superstar now

I'm guessing that being closer to extended family is one of the reason's LA is appealing, but it is hard to understand why he is so set on just LA. It is his call, but it seems pretty clear that Dempster did not explain his mindset clearly enough for this whole thing to happen, leak or no leak.

The Dodgers have more of a need for a pitcher now, but it is hard to imagine the Cubs getting even Allen Webster back in a deal with the Dodgers having all the leverage in negotiations.
