Any chance Atlanta revisits the Dempster trade or did that ship sail for good? Now that Greinke is off the market, Dempster might be their last hope since Shields and/or J. Johnson might cost too much for the Braves to consider.

If the narrative of holding out for LA but will go anywhere once LA balks is true than ATL isn't dead, but more than life support is hard to imagine.

There's also this:

One source told Stark that while the Braves and Ryan Dempster could potentially reverse course and get a deal done that would send the hurler to Atlanta, he "seriously" doubts it will happen.

how was that amusing? he couldnt get a 3rd team involved. not sure why someone with baseball knowledge would make a stupid comment like that.

When your farm system is that bad and you have to try to get another team involved to even have a prayer, that's when the effort gets amusing. I don't think there was anything wrong with what I said, but I will concede that I don't know the Sox system or philosophy as good as you do.

Some Dempster/Garza stuff:

The Cubs are at an impasse with the Dodgers over Ryan Dempster while the Braves continue to monitor the situation according to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com. People in the game think Atlanta could get involved with Dempster again even though their first deal fell through.
If the Cubs don't trade Matt Garza this summer, he seems likely to be dealt in the winter, writes Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. A trade seems likely as the two sides haven't discussed a contract extension since talks broke off this spring.

Or maybe he just doesn't like the Sox.. who knows.

I highly doubt it. Players dont think like fans.

1) AL team
2) homerun park
= a chance that he isnt as valuable as a FA when/if numbers inflate due to those reasons.

its not always about players hating the "other" team and stuffz. They arent fans.

The Cubs also don't want any of the White Sox's trash that they gave to the Astros and Twins for Brett Myers and Francisco Liriano respectively. KW has obliterated the Sox's farm system of any talent and it will continue to be the absolute worst farm system in baseball until he leaves.

you honestly have no clue. i suggest you stop following baseball. heres our specs: beckham, ramirez, viciedo, morel, de aza, jones, reed, sale, quintana, flowers, septimo, jordan danks......all on the mlb roster, all in first place. but hey you have zero pitching depth and josh vitters, brett jackson, baez, and rizzo...better hope all specs pan out. oh and the cubs are a middle of the pack farm just an fyi.

But how much of that talent would the Sox want to part with?

I agree however that if given the option of only one, I'd take MLB success over the farm with the most potential.

Bolded are the only ones that are worth half a shit.

Otherwise you're just talking random players that come up all the time.

Dewy, he was saying there's nothing in your farm system that the Cub would want. Ok, granted their on your MLB roster but they ain't going anywhere. I have to agree, I looked at your farm system and there's nothing there I would want the Cubs to get. Dempster is not going to get naything much in return, but LA still can outbid if needed.

btw, I think there's still a chance Garza isw traded. Lety's see why:

Greinke: Angels
Hamels: Phillies
Liriano: White Sox
Johnson: Teams backed off because of pirce and healthy reasons.

Who's left? Dempster, and Garza?
What teams want SP? Rangers, Braves, Dodgers, Blue Jays and Red Sox?

It's probably still a longshot, but you never know. The Sox did take a chance on Peavy when he was injured and it worked out.

He won't pitch till after the deadline.

Yeah I know... but that doesn't mean he won't be traded. I still think it's unlikely but maybe a team will be desperate. More teams need SP and not as many on the market.

Like I said, the Sox took a gamble with Peavy.

Exactly, KW has made a lot of moves this season, but they have been for two guys that no one wanted (that isn't saying that is a bad move since no one wanted Quintana) and a reliever (which are worth very little). The only way the Sox can make a move on a big ticket item is to give up pieces off the major league roster.
