But to be honest. With the whole Franco thing going on I doubt that TBR would trade away Caminaro. I would be fine with Mead and water down the return.

But in regard to Devers. Word is Boston is looking to add to him vs subtract payroll.

That is why I did not agree with your post. It has no substance to it

My suggestion has no substance perhaps but I'm still not the one suggesting putting most of the top 10 on the table in part for a pitcher who might get 100 innings and will cost 25M on top of that.

Boston might be looking to add but they have black holes at SS with Story and along their rotation. If I want to take on a pitcher for 25M that might not pan out, might as well look to get Sale from Boston sort of like the Betts/Price package. At least Sale has pitched well in the past and still has a good K/9 rate that so many are looking for.

I just think the Cubs have got to be open to trading from their depth for 3B.

Just reading about Ohtani's revenue generation possibility. In Anaheim it was estimated he generated about 377 million worldwide and tens of millions for the team.

This should allay any concerns about Ohtani being too expensive. I'd imagine being in our market he will dwarf those numbers, And his revenue generation for the Cubs could be above 100 million per year. Ricketts would have no excuse not to go into luxury tax every other year at least.

Was just in LA in August and went to see Ohtani play. The park was packed with asians all wearing Ohtani garb. And it appeared there were tons of asian tourists there also. Cubs will make a lot of money if he signs here.

Hard to say? Anaheim might as well be L.A and that city has the largest Japanese population in the United States. It'd be hard to guess what the 3rd largest market team would bring better than the 1st. The Cubs are much more storied than the Angels but again, their city is L.A. Their stadium is 25 miles to downtown. It's also a closer flight back home to Japan for Ohtani..

All that said? Bring him Home Jed!!!!!

The fan base for the Cubs is in the top 3 in the majors. Angels are way down the list at around 15.
The cubs have an estimated 3.4 million fans and Angels 1.3 million. It is more than double.

Look I get your point on Glasgow but on the flip side he has 8 years in and under 600 innings on his arm.

So does it matter? Long term yes short term no.

We are talking 25M for 1 year. It is a gamble but his ERA suggests a good investment and then have depth on hand if he shuts down.

For his sake hope for the best because a strong year puts him on the map next year. He won't have the miles on his arm that concerns teams when paying a pitcher

I get that. And I think if you win, it shouldn't matter. If he comes to Chicago, I'm sure the dollars he brings in will greatly benefit the organization, the city, the fans. But my point still stands. It's Los Angeles. 2nd largest market (not 1st, I was wrong previously. Forgot about NYC).

I'm excited and hope they land him. It ain't my money! I say give him a billion and a private plane to Japan whenever he needs it)

He was the highest paid player last year and most was outside of payroll.

He is a cash cow. Any moron can see that.

This is why the HSL is so lame. Everyone drooling over the big names. They can sign or trade for Ohtani, Bellinger, Glasgow, Soto and Bieber....and they still won't go anywhere until they rebuild that bullpen. It's barren, just because Counsel is signaling for them isn't gonna make them better. They scored a lot of runs last year....still didn't play post seaon games. And why exactly was that?

Cubs lost 3 players to injury in Sept. Merryweather was the last man standing

You are not wrong but the pen was effective when a full. It will be a concern to add depth but I doubt that any major names will be added.

Hoyer addressed this in his end of year interview. The pen will be mostly home grown. So you could see some future starters debut in the pen to adapt to the talent then take off later. Steele broke in in the pen with Thompson. Thompson has had injuries so far. Steele took off as a starter.

If you want to point the finger at one thing you really can not. Steele gassed. Bellenger went cold. Candy went cold.

At the end it was hard pressed to keep that team chugging for 162.

How many times does a player fly home during the season? Zero?

Why would a closer flight matter if he makes it twice a year?

I've made this argument a lot. I think the reverse argument is friends/family/fans visiting him.
