So - do we believe in Ryan Poles now?

A 7-8 record is absolutely unacceptable. The Bears must play all 17 games! . . .
But what if all of the coaching staff gets fired for jerking off in their offices like Alan Williams did and they have to forfeit their last 2 games??

The most successful people make their own luck. It’s amazing how hard work, dedication, optimism, and intelligence are character traits of a lot of “lucky” individuals.
Which is why I didn't say I wanted to take away from what he did.

At the same time, remember the miracle the Texans pulled off to give us the first overall pick last year, which led to the trade this year, which contributed to Carolina being terrible, and this just so happened to be the year Caleb Williams was coming out. If this was the 2022 draft then we'd be taking a guy like Aidan Hutchinson or Sauce Gardener: really nice players to have but don't have the franchise-shifting potential that an elite QB does.

It's ok to say Poles has gotten really lucky, because he has.

I just hope they get Allen for another 2years but if he walks this offseason for one last big payday(unlikely given his age), we can start to talk about comp picks!! @BaBaBlacksheep
It may have been him that told me that you don't get comp picks for 10+ year vets. So if Allen walked, we get nothing there. Still though, a 4th rounder for an elite WR for a year to help ease the transition for your new franchise QB is well worth the price.

Edit to add: only a 5th (as he notes below). Better than nothing!

Alan Williams had health and family issues that needed attention! He most certainly did not jerk off in his office.

He did it at the receptionist's desk . . .

Sadly they can only get a 5th because of how long he’s been in the league. I’m curious if he’s here for a few more years. (Hope he is if the price is right)

Getting yourself into the position where you can pick the consensus #1 QB without being anything like the worst team in the league not so easy though right?

This draft fell extremely well the reason for that is a number of key decisions Poles has made to bring this situation about. Hard to remember a more exciting time to be a Bears fan and you have to give the GM a great deal of credit for that. I was on the fence with him but he has had an exceptional 12 months setting things up.

This is the start of a new era which will define his tenure, this is his team now and the signs are very good.
I don't dislike Poles. But the primary reason we are where we are is because of Lovie Smith - there was a lot of luck involed.

It's not that hard to blow-up a team and draft the consensus #1 QB. Poles gets more credit when we start stacking Ws.

If the Texans win that game, Poles is sitting at two and auctioning off Stroud or Young. He most likely gets a major haul there too and possibly from Carolina.

He’s had some luck but he and Cunningham are bright, hard working guys that know what they’re doing.

I'm not saying that they're not. Two things can be true at once. Hopefully this year helps Cunningham grab a GM spot next year so we can reap those sweet comp picks as a result.

The truth always comes out eventually. I think Poles is the luckiest man since Ringo Star.

Is Poles the guy who drafted VJJ and traded pick 32 for Chase Claypool? Or is he some mastermind that setup what we got last night. I'll take the former for now.

Yes he needs to actually accomplish something but to his credit, he rolled the dice and got the #1pick. But he also passed up on Stroud too.

Bro be dancin on the doubters:

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

(And yes, I know that's not really real, for the dumb trolls out there. It's an amazing day to be a Bears fan - lighten up.)
Like all GMs, he has positions that he personally evaluates well and those he doesn't. Even Pace was good at evaluating defensive linemen (particularly interior ones). I've never felt Poles was strong at evaluating wide-receivers for example, and I'm still not convinced he is.

And Howie Roseman drafted Jalen Raegor over Justin Jefferson and spent a 4th on Robert Quinn who I technically never saw in a Eagles uniform.

All GMs have misses. Thanks

The Claypool was baffling considering everyone knew he was a massive headache but missing on Jones—who might have a lengthy career just returning kicks—isn’t that big of a deal.

I'm a believer in Poles. Every GM will have questionable moves in a career, but, overall, Poles has done great work in his first few years. The great unknown for me is if Poles was right to stick with Flus. Personally, I thought Flus should have been canned at the end of last season and Poles should have hired an offensive minded HC to pair with Caleb.

I hope I'm wrong on Flus.

Idiot.

Also, while I personally love the obvious no-braner and layup picks, Poles has accomplished nothing to date other than not fucking up easy choices. Circle back when the scoreboard says he isn’t a loser.

I was thinking the same thing....are we really dunking on people for Poles making the worlds most obvious picks. If Poles deserves credit, it's for making the trade with the Panthers. Not fucking up two top 10 picks should be expected.

It's crazy how a month ago you were claiming that you wouldn't take my ban bet because "I wouldn't have honored it", the day before fields got traded. And now, 30ish days later, despite them doing the literal thing you were calling us idiots for suggesting that they do, you are asking us if we have any remaining doubt about the GM. Certainly makes you think!

Come on man, can't someone change their mind the minute the player they were banging the table for gets traded and then claim that you watched some youtube videos and are now all in on the obvious choice at #1?

Also, mjy is dunking on people for Poles doing the opposite of what mjy wanted him to do.
