You are the one who considers it to be the cubs. pure speculation.

Hey man I've seen all kinds of people on twitter say the cubs are going to land Pujols... They are all people with about 13 followers and zero credibility BUT THEYRE OUT THERE!

Please, you said Dunn was coming last year, and now you think Pujols and Fielder are coming this year.

He was saying that it was pure speculation that the Cubs were the 3rd team that jumped in.

I never said Pujols and Fielder would be coming here, Dewey. I'm sorry that you can't read.

I stated that DeJesus wouldn't be the big signing of the year and you take that to mean that the Cubs will get the big 2 FAs. Typical Dewey.

I was anti-Pujols but if the Cubs do land him, I'll be happy. I'd still prefer Fielder but the Cubs can't walk away from this empty-handed. The opportunity for a couple of true superstars at a position you need and the Yankees and Red Sox do not need won't come along again for a LONG time.

I don't think anybody thinks that so long as they are knowledgeable about the differences between the rules of the American League of Professional Baseball Clubs and those of the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs (referring to DH) and of the position both José Alberto Pujols Alcántara and Prince Cecil Fielder play.

Seattle is a terrible crime city. If Fielder has children (I'm not sure) it may affect his decision. I was there over the Summer, some areas are like the South Side x2.

have you ever been to the southside in the last 5 years? even the wild 100's? The westside is the worst part of chicago as of right now, and that is even cleaning up.

seattle is amazing, i doubt his kids would be going to a school in the ghetto.

he wont be moving to a neighborhood like "over the rhyne" in cinci.

Pujols to Cubs? Not likely
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday that the Cubs have made a qualifying bid for free-agent slugger Albert Pujols. However, that seems unlikely because Pujols, who wants a long-term, mega-dollar deal, doesn't fit into what Theo Epstein has said he wants to do in Chicago. Epstein did meet with Pujols' agent Dan Lozano on Monday but those discussions were more about pitcher Rodrigo Lopez. The Post-Dispatch says it confirmed the Cubs did submit a bid for Pujols. A Cubs official Tuesday denied the reports.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network says the Cubs are eyeing Prince Fielder more than Albert Pujols. However, Heyman also reported the Marlins are offering Pujols a 10-year contract. The Cardinals have yet to change their offer of eight years, $111 million.

I'm gonna play the disagree card here. Let's say he gets 250 million, which is the high end. That means that he will be getting 25/year, or 5 wins/year. That means he needs to have 50 WAR over the life of the contract. I don't think that that is unreasonable to expect at all. I think that they would be smarter to front load it, but it doesn't really matter, as you're paying for the production through out the contract. I see the 5 million per win rate going up too, with the new CBA. I see no reason he can't put up 50 WAR over the rest of his career.

Aren't we optimistic...

Let's pretend for a moment that Pujols' 2011 was a fluke. He was worth 5.4 rWAR. Previously he was at least a 7 rWAR player so let's pretend he'll start with 7 rWAR in 2012.

Pujols is not a machine. He is human. He will get older and start to suck (for him anyway). You have to decrease his projected production for each year going forward.

2012 7 WAR
2013 6.5 WAR
2014 6 WAR
2015 5.5 WAR
2016 5 WAR
2017 4.5 WAR
2018 4 WAR
2019 3.5 WAR
2020 3 WAR
2021 2.5 WAR

So that would give you about 47.5 WAR if you just assume he'll depreciate at a steady half-win per season. The problem is that once you get past a certain age, the production really starts to drop, so it's unlikely that even a player as great as Pujols will be able to get those 47.5 WAR. That's a crazy gamble to make. And it's a lot easier to do it when you're an armchair GM than when it's your money that's about to be set on fire after 2016 or so.
