when this team is ready to contend he will be a FA. guys like nightengale amongst others have the cubs on a 4-5 year plan.

That doesn't answer either of the two questions I posed. It is all well and go to say that he will be a free agent by then and that they ought to trade him. But he will also be 27 at that point. So yes he will be expensive, but at the same time the Cubs will be paying for his peak years. The Cubs don't have an issue with paying players. The issue is paying for previous production and not future production.

and he could also be what he is going to be. 4 years from now if he is the same player with still no pop, you will get less for him. move him and keep building.

Okay what is a good return for him and what team would pay that return?

As far as what will happen in reality. I am certain that Jed and Theo would listen to an offer for Castro, but what is enough for a 22 year old SS that already has a 200 hit season under his belt (not the be all and end all of stats but the list of guys that have achieved it by the age of Castro is pretty damn impressive)? What team is going to part with that to land him? Sure if some team wants to give me a deal that I can't refuse of course I would do it, but I don't see that deal happen.

How much is enough to trade a 22 year old SS that has slightly above average production for the position already with 4 years of team control left? What team would give up that amount?

If offered would you take Royals 3b mike moustkkas (sp)?

I don't think any team would offer a young future all star 3b for Castro, but if offered I think you would have to jump all over it

We can assume he a future all star 3B. Where Castro is a young 22 y/o allstar SS

True. At a position that is flush with SS talent. If it was a real deal it would take more than Castro to land Mouse (thx for the nickname)

To be honest I am not sure either side would pull the trigger on Castro for Moustakas deal.

As a Cubs fan i dont give up a 22 y/o all star SS for a chance of 3B allstar. I would want more

Oh I don't know if the trade gets done or not as well. But I don't think there's much of a debate who is more valuable

Were you also the one that wouldn't have taken Braun before last season?

Gotta separate your bias

Moustakas's ceiling as an offensive player is certainly higher than Castro, but he has exactly two good months of hitting as a big leaguer at this time. And he is older than Castro and plays an "easier" defensive position. I think it is a real hard call. If I had to make the call I would probably go with Moustakas, but I would lose a lot of sleep over it.

That kind of answers the question there. You dont pull a trade unless your 100% comfortable with it
