Sveum was a great manager until this IMO, I think it is frustration getting the better of him, something he needs to learn to not have influence his decisions. I still trust that Sveum will be a great manager though.
Ryne Sandberg really ought to be buying Jim Hendry and Theo Epstein a fruit basket or something since they saved him from this fate.

I still am really glad the Cubs went with Sveum, and this is a really tough draw as a start for a managerial career. That said you wonder what Sveum thought this year was going to be like.

He probably thought the team would be 70 wins bad and not brett05 bad :cubstroll:

But I'm pretty sure the front office told him point blank that it would not be a good team at all.

This team is worse than brett05 bad lol, what did the Mets do as far as winning percentage that year again?

If we're Spiders bad it would lock up the #1 pick.

Mets were 40-120 their first year. I'm pretty confident the Cubs can win more than 40 games. 60 might be a stretch now.

Cubs will win more then 40. I still think they are a 100+ loss team though. This could change though once Rizzo, Jackson, and possible Vitters up though. Cubs are in alot of low scoring games. Imagine if they had any type of offense they prolly have 5-10 more wins

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't this the second time he had no clue on the number of outs this week? (first time was as a runner?)

Yes I agree, of course the Mets were an expansion team, so I think that if the Cubs get in the 50-55 range on wins it's worse than the Mets by comparison.

He thought the ball was foul or something and stopped.

So that could be why the Dale is getting upset. Whether you like it that he handles it somewhat thru the media is up for debate, but I can see why he'd be unhappy. Of course the line sounds like he does it once more and he's benched for the year seems extreme, but I also like it that he's not letting Castro be treated any differently

Again it seems easy though to do it to Castro that while he may be the most talented player on the roster he is still a young making nothing player on the roster. This is where the Quade comparisons come into play who was quick to throw Castro under the bus but the big money veterans were allowed to run the aslyum. To a degree I think it is all overblown, but it is just concerning to see Sveum starting to display more and more traits of the previous manager.

See I thought the way Quade treated Castro was genius. He was the team leader last year and is again this year. The head of the animal...

I don't see how Castro was a team leader on a team with Aramis Ramirez, Carlos Pena, Alfonso Soriano, etc.

I think there's a chance that this was a calculated move (though I still don't agree with it) by Sveum to light a fire under Castro's ass and let him know that even though this team sucks donkey balls he still has to play hard through every inning and every out. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but I see very few scenarios where Sveum sits Castro for more than one game except as a needed rest.

Literally, the last time he had a day off (except for the offseason where I'm sure he was working out at some point, and spring training plus scheduled days off for the entire team) was August 22 of last year.

Last year, I do. And if he wasn't there was no one doubting who was going to be.

Yes I agree he would get one day off maybe. If he does it again, well then probably two days and perhaps a sit down with upper management to see how they can keep his head in the game.

How much is enough to trade a 22 year old SS that has slightly above average production for the position already with 4 years of team control left? What team would give up that amount?
