Since when has money been a thing for the Dodgers?

Well, the Dodgers have went flat out stupid in contracts. I didn't think anyone could surpass the Yankees, but they have managed to dwarf their payroll. More power to them because they have it obviously.

The one thing the Dodgers have an advantage of over the Yankees is at least they are more often than not, locking up younger players rather than older ones, so they stand a little better chance.

Having Ryu, Kemp, Ethier, Puig, Kershaw and others come up through the system is what a lot of teams only wish they could do.

Masahiro Tanaka Rumors: Sunday
By Edward Creech [January 19 at 6:05pm CST]
Masahiro Tanaka will reportedly command a contract in the neighborhood of $120MM over six years (plus the expected $20MM posting fee) and is said to have received such an offer from the Diamondbacks. Here's the latest with five days remaining before Tanaka's posting period expires Friday at 4pm CT:

The Cubs' convention this weekend was rather quiet, but that might have been different if Tanaka's deadline had been a week earlier, Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago writes. One source told Rogers that the Cubs would be willing to sign Tanaka for up to six to eight years at $25MM per year, while another told him the Cubs would be willing to go with that time frame, but at a lower price.
Tanaka's decision should come Tuesday or Wednesday to allow time for further medical exams to take place prior to the Friday deadline, an AL scout tells David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com (via Twitter).
Kaplan tweets the same scout tells him the Cubs' current state is the biggest drawback in their landing Tanaka. Yesterday, we learned the Cubs made a formal offer to Tanaka, but are considered a long shot to win the bidding.
The White Sox, who also have reportedly have made a formal offer to Tanaka, are in the same boat as the Cubs, tweets Kaplan.
The Mariners may have been priced out of contention for Tanaka or the 25-year-old's interest in Seattle wasn’t as high as some thought, reports the Seattle Times' Geoff Baker.

It's the fact that its being spent on pitchers who are always one pitch away from throwing their arm out. Risky Business

I simply love how because its another team, spending big time money on pitching is risky because 'pitchers are always one pitch from throwing their arm out.'

Why weren't you getting this concerned about the Giants who had near 70 million tied up to 3 guys the past few years?

I'm just curious (though I already know the answer). Would you be saying the same thing had Clayton Kershaw been on the Cubs?

Stop cherry picking half baked arguments and bring something concrete to the table please, theo boy.

Love all these stupid reports. One day the Cubs and Sox are rumored to be 1 and 2, and the next they aren't even considered serious.

Watch the guy pitch one inning and then his arm falls off. Yells "BONZAI!!" as he throws his bag of money over his shoulder with his good arm and rides off into the sunset, or the nearest japanese love hotel where he blows it all on pachinko, bad japanese beer and soap service girls.

It's going to be hysterical if some completely out of nowhere team ends up winning his services.

"Breaking news: Seattle Mariners continue offseason overhaul, agreeing to terms with Japanese pitcher Tanaka and send a package of prospects headlined by Tijuan Walker to the Rays for David Price"

How do you know I wasn't?

And yes, I would be concerned about the Cubs giving Kershaw $30MM

But continue on asshat

Dude.... Kershaw is worth every penny the Dodgers are paying him. Guy's the best pitcher in baseball by a fairly substantial margin. He'll be in his prime for the duration of that contract and he probably hasn't even reached his ceiling yet. We're watching the evolution of an all-time great when it comes to Kershaw. He's one guy I always check the box scores on regardless of who he's playing. I think any of us would be floored if he was in a Cubs uni.
