Holy fucking shit. This couldn't be further from the truth. As a huge fan of the University of Arizona, I can assure you Goff is very well known and feared in the Pac 12.

Im well known in my smallish hometown, and I am feared by some. Can I be a "franchise" QB?

Big fish in a small pond does not equal elite.

I took issue with the presumption that Goff is or was not a top 5 QB in the Pac 12. I don't know whether he'll succeed in the pro's. But he sure as hell is succeeding in college. That is not up for debate.

So, it could be further from the truth then.

Epitome of hyperbole.

The stats say they're similar. Cutler has just had more 4 quarter comebacks / game winning drives. Probably because Cutler in general has been on better teams than Fitzpatrick.

Cutler passer rating is 85 vs 79 and his yards per pass attempt is 7.2 vs 6.6 yds. Those are the stats that say the most overall. Ryan is also a hair worse at balls lost per snap. Jay's not great but he's better than Ryan.

Yeah they're similar if we greatly exaggerate stats.

QB rating 85.1 to 79.4
Yards per pass 7.17 to 6.61
Completion Percentage 61.7 to 60.2
Td-int ratio 1.41 to 1.22
TDs-pass attempt percentage 4.7% to 4.3%
Winning percentage .508 to .380
Eye test NOT EVEN CLOSE

If you want to say these numbers are similar I guess Jay Cutler and Dan Marino are comparable.

I think we need an ultimatum on this forum, if you believe Fitzpatrick and Cutler are close, you are self banned until after the draft.

Career as a whole? Sure- Fitz is trailing.

Interestingly enough however, If you look at a comparison from 2009- present, they are virtually the exact same guy.

That is with Fitzpatrick on 4 teams, While Cutler has been on 1 that brought in a crap ton of talent on the offense.

To argue like cutler supporters argue, "Fitzpatrick has done as well on 4 teams as a guy that had every advantage in the world on 1 team... If Fitzpatrick could get continuity and decent talent around him he would be elite!!!"

I dont believe that argument on Fitzatricks behalf, and I dont believe it on Cutlers. they are both mediocre.

And I said they're similar, especially over the last several years.

Cutler is a more talented QB, but he squanders much of that talent by playing stupid and not learning the things he needs to be a good QB.

Fitzpatrick does not have that talent, thus will never be able to grasp the things he would need to to be a good QB.

Good post.
Like many players at the position throughout the years, Physical talent takes a back seat to mental acuity, and the greats are the ones who can dominate the mental side of the game.

this is a joke. Fitzpatrick can barely be considered a starting QB.

It is a joke that they are so similar. The joke is on chicago fans. At least 3 teams were smart enough to move on from Fitz.

Fitzatrick 2009 to now-an 81.8 passer rating. 4.6 td%. a 3.6 int %. 213 yards per game.
Cutler 2009 to now- an 84.3 passer rating. a 4.9 td%. a 3.5 int%. 227 yards per game.

That is fitz on 4 teams with far less support.

Yes. It is a fucking joke. Cutler in a far better position has by just the tiniest of margins outperformed a guy who changes teams every damn year.

So ifI cherry pick a stat does that mean Cutler is now comparable to the QB that I compared the cherry picked stat too?

jay is probably the worse long time starter the league has ever seen. any other team would have moved on from him long ago, but then again only the bears and skins were dumb enough to get in a bidding war for him. and after you give up 2 firsts for a player you tend to latch onto that shit.

though even the skins have already moved on from RG3.

I'm comparing Jay to Otto Graham because only they have two rushing td's and passing td's in a playoff game. I don't have to look at other stats

lol, it's going to be a long, cold trek across the desolate QB wilderness once Jay Cutler leaves town. Maybe some don't remember it, but I do.

Besides, what QB has been available to the Bears that is clearly better in the time that Cutler was acquired? And I mean clearly, not comparable.

well, since you Jay haters are so fucking hung up on his record as a starter, I give you Fitzpatrick's record: 35-56.

Which is probably why he's been with 4 teams.

If that long cold trek includes playoff appearances...I'm all for it.

We all know the current "franchise OB" is unable to consistently lead us there.
