It's called the 4th line. Remind me how many points any of them have, other than Stalberg who scored his first goal against Columbus.

Stalberg-Dowell-Skille was one of the more consistent lines out there for ALL the games. Other than the top line of course.

Mean while that line was not coherent last night.[/quote]

I agree, it is the 4th line. And none of them do that much for me. I don't get a big boner over energy and speed that doesn't produce results. Look, Our top 6 forwards and top 4 dmen are the best in the league, and they eat up a lot of cap space. As a result, we got a shit load of guys making minimum wage who aren't exactly oozing talent.

Whether its Skille, Stalberg, Dowell, Scott, Cullimore, Boynton, Hendry getting scratched, or some other dishwasher-wage guy, i dont' think its worth getting all worked up about. Going forward, Scott will be scratched the most out of all those guys, but last nights game was the type he should not watch from the press box.

None of our star players has a concussion today. Hawks have won 3 of 4. Hossa leads the league in scoring. I'm ready to talk about the Blues game tomorrow.

This is also why you would not make it as a coach or general manager. With the salary cap no team can have 4 forward lines that can put up 50+ goals. Actually, I don't know any team in the history of the NHL that had 4 lines of guys who could post 50+ goals. You need lines such as a 3rd line or 4th line that provide a spark for your team, will go out and try and change momentum, shut down the oppositions top lines, and mainly give your top two lines a breather and not be considered a liability.

Coach Larry will you be icing Scott tomorrow night, and if so who's sitting. And please explain your purpose for the 4th line. One of the reason we Won the Stanley Cup last year was the consistency of the 4th line. I firmly believe there is not only a Purpose for that SPECIFIC line, but that Scott does not fit on it directly due to his skating ability.

Please explain to me why the 4th line is just "some line we throw out there".

I'll wait.

I already gave him the answer.

Scott doesn't have a purpose on any line, or belong in the NHL for that matter.

When we first signed him I figured I'd give him a few games before making a general opinion as I had never seen him play before outside of some youtube clips. After watching him play more then 5 games, one would have to be a complete and utter idiot to think he brings anything to the table in the realm of hockey. Let's state the facts:

He's a large hockey player of 6 feet 8 inches and weight more then a quarter ton (258 pounds)

He is probably one of the worst skaters in the NHL.

He has no proven ability to handle the puck.

He cannot play defense if his life depended on it.

He is a liability on the ice.

He has a history of being able to fight.

Out of any of those things I posted, what is positively working for the Hawks?

While I was surprised Skille was the scratch I'll but my trust in the guy who has coached over 1,000 NHL games and has a Stanley Cup ring.

Sorry E, but taking out Skille of all guys to play John Scott a few shifts was asinine.

And who many times did we type ourselves into a tissy (myself included) last year questioning Q? The PP, line combos, goalies, etc.? Q said Scott was dressed due to the potential bad blood. There ya go, debate it all you want but that's the coach's answer. And you can bet your ass he'll be dress Monday and Wednesday as well. Stalhberg barley touched the ice in the 3rd, look for him to be the scratch.

How exactly do you "but" a trust? I'm confused.... :?

Haha, I'll just blame that on the Codeine....

I'll put my trust....

Q has made enough maddening decisions in his tenure to have your hair fall out, no doubt. I guess I'm just done worrying about it.

Well most of the 3rd he had Brouwer-Toews-Kane back together. Hopefully he will stick with that tomorrow night.

Brouwer-Toews-Kane

Kopecker-Sharp-Hossa

Bickell-Bolland-Skille

Stalberg-Dowell-Pisani/Scott

Not sure I understand sending Leddy down though. Very confusing unless it's to save money and they recall him tomorrow.

I'd like him to see if Kane can spark JT.

I thought the pee difficulty was caused by shyness at public bathroom urinals.

Codeine sounds expensive.

While I agree with everyone that there is no way in a TYPICAL game for Scott to be dressed over Skille. I just can't understand the bitching associated with John Scott even after a win, it's hysterical.

If this was a game against the Wild or Panthers or any other team the Hawks have no history with, I would ***** about it.

The Hawks should have won by 2 goals but got hosed by the refs... it was obvious none of the Sabres wanted ANYTHING to do with Scott out of the few scrums he was involved with. If it even crossed any of the Buffalo players minds not to run one of our guys it was worth it.

Hawks won, Q knows what he's doing... after the next two games you won't have to see Scott playing for awhile.

Look Ron, I basically agree with you about the role of the 4th line, and of course never said they should be 50 goal guys. But fact is they are short on talent, and they are there for hustle and spark. But that role is not that hard to fill (unlike the top lines).

Winning the Cup last year was primarily because of the talent at the top, not because of Burish, Fraser and Eager. Nothing against them personally, but those guys are a dime a dozen, and are available on the free agent scrap heap every summer.

That'd be nice. I wonder how much Hossa's white hot start has to do with that though? Seems like Toews has been passing up shots, but it's early.

Leddy got sent down? Good move imho. i just think he looks raw. I thought they would wait for Campbell to come back though. Last night when Grier tried to tee up on Leddy my heart stopped. That could have been disastrous.

Guy has lots of talent, But best thing for his development is 20 minutes a night in the A.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
You hit it before I could RK:

I think needs to stick with these lines:

Brouwer-Toews-Kane

Kopecker-Sharp-Hossa

Bickell-Bolland-Skille

Stalberg-Dowell-Pisani/Scott

Why? Because even though Toews has chemistry with Hossa, it seems like sharp has better chemistry with him *and* Kopecky. Toews, Kane, and Brouwer seem to do nicely together.

At least, that's my opinion and I'm sticking with it until proven otherwise.

Anyhow, I hope al,so that Collimore never sees the 'hawks ice again. Hendry and Leddy are much better. Hendry may be 6/7 but you know what you're getting from him. Leddy shows flashes of brilliance but he does need some AHL seasoning. Cullimore is like Scott without the defensive awareness.

Still, i was dissapointed through the 1st two, but they came on in the third and i'm happy for the win....now, can someone pass the crow.

and BTW, Turco looked wicked that game.

I would take Eager over Scott any day of the week. As far as how many of these 4th line guys are available every summer; that's something I think about every time I watch Scott. No one can tell me that the only option available (due to the cap) was a goon that can't even skate.

The best place for Scott is in the press box.......he can't hurt the team from there.

How did he "hurt the team" yesterday?

So comical that all of the focus is on Scott who played barely any time on the 4th line and barely any on the real goat, Cullimore. Jesus Christ people... the Hawks could have won 10-1 and people would still be bitching.

He played 6:07, had 3 hits and 1 takeaway and was EV +/-. The Hawks gave up 41 shots to taking only 21 themselves. But it's all John Scott's fault

Cullimore was a -1 and played double the time Scott did on DEFENSE and had 2 giveaways.
