As much as Stan calls the shots, I think most of those shots are coming from his dad, and has the finally say. If thats the case, Hell I'm all for it. I don't mind if we don't make playoffs this year. Just look how hungrey this team will be next year. Not many teams repeat. Name me the team that repeated last....NJ??. Ok not making playoffs after winning it all blows but, we atleast tasted the Stanley Cup last year. This team is not going to allow losing its fans again. We will be ok.

They'll lose a lot of bandwagon fans if they don't make the playoffs.

Their money spends as well as everyone else's.

Missing the playoffs would be a major black eye for this organization.

Hopefully that won't happen.

They just Won the Cup for the first time in 49 years.

Black Eye my ass.

Those bandwagon fans will come and go as the team wins and loses. It's no different here than anywhere else.

Wow...what have you been smoking? I want me some.

That's just a load of heaping, steaming. mushy poo....if we miss the playoffs, then we miss them.....meh. Of course I'd be very disappointed. But a "major black eye"? Come on, Jim....even YOU know better than that.....don't you?

From a PR standpoint, yes. Most casual fans will not understand how a team can go from winning the 'Cup to finishing out of the playoffs in a league where over half the teams make it.

It will be a huge financial loss, as well, as playoff games are big money makers for hockey teams.

I'm guessing that renewals will be down, so that will eat up a large portion of the STH waiting list.

And next season, initial ticket demand will be down, which will hurt McDicklick's precious ticket scalping business.

Not sure how much ad revenue the Hawks get, but TV ratings will suffer. They may already be down, although I'm not sure about that.

Hard core fans won't be effected either way.

But the Hawks buzz so prevalent the last couple of years will be less than it was.

I suppose if they played more than 1-2 games. At this rate if they missed the playoffs chances are they wouldn't have gotten past the first round, in which they wouldn't have home ice.

I don't agree. The poor play is creating just as much media bullshit right now as missing the playoffs.

You have stated "YOU" really want them to make at least one round so to "YOU" its a black eye.

See how that works.

And you are one "scalping" tickets so I guess that effects you just like "McDick"... Which is bullshit. IF they win there will be demand. If they lose there will not. It's worked like that for EVERY sport.

Admittedly it's all conjecture on my part.

We shall see....

I'm going to have to go with PJ on this one. They pulled all the stops, used all their PR tricks and did everything they could to make the "resurgence" happen, and if the hawks make the playoffs... well it will be a huge hit to the organization if the bandwagoners bail. Bottom line for McD sucess is money and if he's not producing as much, then it's a big deal. He's been riding the gravy train of decisions that a trained monkey could have made. But if the hawks miss the playoffs the wave crashes and he'll actually have to work again to get those fans back to the level they were last year. You can only fudge the sell out numbers so much. He'll have to think of new gimmicks to get the bandwaggoners back. We all understand what missing the playoffs mean, but all the fans who are going to games cause it's cool won't really have a reason to go anymore. A lot of the excitement around this team has already dwindled around town, and missing the playoffs could be a crushing blow the the PR psyche. Especially if the players that the hawks left go have any amount of sucess. The second guessing and questioning and blaming will mount and while all media is good media, the negativity will take over and McD just can't have people talking about him that way. It could get ugly... hopefully he does something about it himself and ... well several ways of getting out but i'm not going there.

And they Won the Stanley Cup. They are relevant again. Just as they will pump it up again next year either way.

The media you mention have been talking about that for months. It won't get any worse. They'll be out, similar to the Bears, and no one will talk about them until August.

And it most definitely should be a more "rounded" team next year which the "media" has also been talking about.

As for the "ugly" how long was he with the Cubs?

They won the Cup after 49 long fucking years. IT will take more than "one" Season of missing the players to unfold what the Championship brings. Especially with Stars like Toews, Kane, Hossa, Keith, Seabrook, Sharp......

I think some of you really underestimate the power of the bandwagon fan. If the Hawks miss the playoffs, you'll have a big chunk of "fans" that lose interest until the Hawks become relevant again. Same thing happened with the White Sox after their World Series win and sucking in 2006. Their attendance has been steadily decreasing since then. The demand for tickets and the price of tickets next season will drop. Hell, it has already been dropping this season with their poor play.. Especially when you factor in the fact that they increased ticket prices, again. Which is just fine by me. Maybe I'll be able to go to a game next season.

I'm not under estimating anything. There will be just as much buzz next year as there is this. One season of missing the playoffs will not make much difference. Now, two or more years, then you have a problem because people flock to winning things.

So they lose interest till August.

And Comiskey and the Cell have been ghost towns my entire life time. Minus the one winner in between.

And even durng that run you could always get a seat.

I guess "suck" was the wrong way to put it. Underachieving is more accurate? Most people expected the Sox to make the playoffs in 2006, at the very least. Much like the Hawks this season. Going from champs to missing the playoffs within a season hurts, any way you want to cut it.

For actual Hawks' fans? Sure. For the bandwagon idiots you see at most home games? No. Again, fine by me.

Have they even sold out the convention yet? Took like two weeks last season. This season, they were still advertising convention passes in February.

Yeah, it sucked when they didn't make it in 2006.

It bothers me more about the Hawks because over half the teams make the playoffs.

Making the basebal postseason is more special in that regard.

If they are on the outside looking in, it's going to be a long summer!

Actually, individual passes haven't gone on sale yet.

But I agree with you.
