If it isn't a good move for the Cubs... what team would Pujols be a good move for?

a team where cash is no concern. yanks and boston. even still, i wouldnt think it would be good for the long haul.

His current demands wouldn't be a good move for any team.

Exactly. You don't just give a player some outrageous deal because it might help you for a few years.

Giving Pujols his demand sets this team back 10 years. 10 years 300 million would be worse than Ryan Howard and Soriano combined.

The Cardinals have offered Pujols an eight-year contract worth "south of" $30MM per season, reports SI.com's Jon Heyman (Twitter links). Despite the offer, Heyman says there is "very little hope" that the two sides will reach an agreement before Wednesday's deadline.
Heyman also tweets that Pujols' representation asked for an ownership share in the Cardinals, who turned down the request due to the complicated nature of the process.

:). I like.

The talks between the two sides still have "a pulse," a source tells Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Sounds weak, but there is still a chance.

Let's hope they give him 10 years then.

Here are the possibilities IMO

1. Cards give him what he wants
2. He tests free agency and he does not get what he wants and goes to the highest bidder.
3. He tests free agency, he doesn't get what he wants and he takes the Cards best offer.

Pretty obvious i suppose... Anything else?

This is great.

Either way it hampers the Cards.

He goes.. Fans are pissed.

He stays.. Not much contract room otherwise.

:yep:

They are going to make a bad move either way.

The Cubs shouldn't sign Pujols because then my "Cardinal fans take it in the Pujols" joke would no longer be funny. And in fact, it would be Cubs fans that like Pujols. Uh oh.

Just kidding.

I wouldn't give him a 10 year deal. I'm not sure who said it, and now I can't even find the post because I'm Special person, but whoever said give him a little more money for an 8 year deal, I agree with. Give him like 32 mil a year for 7 years or 30 for 8 and see how that goes.

Pujols for sure has about 4 really good years left and I can't see him declining extremely significantly over the remaining 3-4 years of a deal.

But seriously, my Pujols joke not being funny any more is the biggest problem with the Cubs signing him. :shifty:

I'd be willing to go higher than 32 per if it meant he would come here on a shorter deal.

Yeah the deal I wrote up was an average of 34.57M per year for 7 years.

Left some options though from years 8-10.

Hell I would be willing to give him a CC Sabathia like opt out clause after 3 or 4 years.

•The talks are over and the deadline will pass without a deal, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney (Twitter links). The sides have not exchanged proposals in the last four days or so and there's still a significant gap on annual salary.
