I'm pretty sure the one guy did post about why Stalberg isn't good, but I'm too lazy to go back. This talk about Stalberg is all nonsense. He is what he is. A fast skater.

:fuckthis:

Winger Defense -the finer points of.

For those of you willing to hang in there for a bit, let me mention something I saw in someone's posted video of some Red Wings-Hawks highlights earlier... it was past the 20 second mark that Buff mentioned -and was during goal 3.

And if you look, you will see Stalhberg up around the top of the near faceoff circle when goal number 3 is scored on the Hawks.

Now, the thing is - and this is pretty cricital ... because there are a lot of dolts that play hockey that don't get this ( and these are the dolts that think the entire team is supposed to chase the puck -no matter where it is ... basically brain surgeons that haven't had their hockey-sense mature since say - grade school gym class floor hockey days....).... yes they are out there -and if you play hockey and have actually had the benefit of actually being coached you may get to play with some of these types.... :p

Ok- the thing is - is that in a transition game -that top of the circle to your defensive blue line -- it is EXACTLY where you are supposed to be if you are playing left wing - whether you are Bobby Hull or little Billy on the frozen parking lot.

It's called zone defense -and Stalberg was NOT out of position in that play. However I would say that about any player in that position, no matter what team he is on.... for all I know, I am an optimist, as for some unkown reason I don't think it is too late to ever acquire a working knowledge of basic wing hockey play.

I don't know what the blank the 29 second mark thing was about -but yeh he should not have been put on the top line as some sort of Quenneville experiment thing in the first place - as the deal with that was all about anticipation . Stalberg either guessed wrong, or the puck was slightly deflected by one of the Wing players.

Mind you, that is not saying anything pro or con about Mr Stalberg... just more like I don't think everyone automatically knows what a winger is supposed to do (and of course they don't actually care either.). :)

I'd say 12 goals is pretty respectable for a 4th liner... only 12 assists though... but who's going to score to get him assists? Not Pisani and whoeverthehellwasalsoonthatline.

That data isn't sound.. Nobody is worth their time to go and look to get the exact measurements but many of those points did come when he was getting time up with Kane and Toews. There was about a glimmer of time in December when the 4th line got hot and was scoring.. beyond that there was little from Stalberg.

He was in a learning transition, see where he goes, I'd rather have Stalberg on the roster as a 4th liner still trying to get him to play a more power forward style than put one of the young better more offensive prospects on a 4th line.. or John Scott.

As much as I dislike John Scott, I do enjoy seeing him beat the shit out of people...
