being from kalamazoo pretty much means you have to love anything from bell's. oberon is like tap water, found everywhere, over here.

that said, winter white ale and the amber are my favorites. hard to find (except for me, haha) "hell hath no fury ale" is serious. available only in october for the most part.

i'm picturing a visit to the beer garden tonight now, mmmm.
• I'm lovin "Bell's Two Hearted Ale" I tried it for the first time this summer. I want to try the Hopslam but my local Armanettis is out and the frshly brewed is'nt out till January. Another IPA I tried this summer was Modus Hopperandi, very good! I keep going back to Guinnes after trying a lot of the other darks, Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout is a good change of pace. I tried Bell's Expedition (dark) and it did'nt excite me at all, especially at 16.00 for a sixer. I also tried Bell's Java Stout , thumbs down for me.
 • Today? I'm thinking of some Bells Two Hearted on ice, yummy!

How long did you let the expedition age?

I had one after about 6 months in my beer cabinet and thought it was great but still could have used another 6 months or year to mellow out the alcohol heat a bit.

Two Hearted on ice??? It might work if the ice was frozen cubes of hopslam.

(oh, and add Stone Ruination to the kick ass IPA list)

Just polished off the 30th anniversary Sierra Nevada Imperial Helles Bock. Quite complex and tasty. Now on to some of my homebrewed saison. I've tried quite a few commercial examples recently too. Great summer beers... I have an Ommegang Hennepin saison waiting in the fridge for me too.

 • Sorry, I meant they would be in a cooler iced down.
 • I did'nt let the expedition age at all, I'll have to let some age and report back in a year.

Bought a sixer of this last week on a whim. Fucking fantastic! Also, I love that it comes from "Ska Brewery"

is it hoppy? I'm not a big fan of hops.

Stouts and dark lagers are my favorites.
I don't mind a hoppy beer, but pretty much limit it to lagers only. I just never have cared for ales much. I just prefer the bite of a lager over an ale.

I like German lagers...Dortmunder & Spaten Optimator are couple of decent ones. For an American brew, I'm liking Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald. A couple of Wisconsin beers I like are Point's Amber and Bock. Plus, can't forget about Labatt's.

And I realize the shit this will bring, but there are plenty of times I'll enjoy a few Budweiser's as well. Had a couple of Foster's oil cans with Gettinsome and the wives last night that went down pretty well too.

Hey guys need your advice or help or whatever you want to categorize it. I don't the beers I've drank, they are too bitter. I've had budweisers (god that shit is terrible), Miller High Life (First two swallows are excellent the rest is crap) and various other name brand beers but they are all too bitter for me, does anyone have any recommendations for a non bitter beer that wouldn't be too hard to find? Also I'm not in Chicago so local beers dont help me. Thanks and much appreciated.

Beer is intended to be bitter. It's the hops. Maybe try something with a sweeter/maltier finish. One of the dark ales (brown, porter, stout) perhaps. Wheat beers also have very little hop bitterness.

You might try looking for a lambic of some sort. They tend to be fruitier "beers" and be sweeter (which is why I'm not usually a big fan). If you have a Binny's or any specialty liquor store near you, they should have a few. Someone on here that knows more than I can probably correct me, but these are usually sold in the larger bottles not always meant for total consumption at one time.

Not being in Chicago, I couldn't suggest Leinie's Honey or Berry Weiss... again much sweeter beers. Tbird actually likes to do half and half with these (the "Honey Berr"), but again, I don't typically care for this as their Red, which I think is now called, "Amber" is my favorite.

Lastly, while not sweet, Stella Artois has more of a "crisp" taste and should be available anywhere.

Thought I might bring back this thread, currently having a bottle of Ranger IPA and it's pretty good. Also Three Floyds Pride And Joy is pretty damn good, smoothest Ale I've ever had.

I have never been a fan of 'designer' beers. I dislike all the 'honey' or 'fruity' stuff.

I very much enjoy

Stella

Grolsh

Hieni's

Moosehead

I am definitely not a fan of Corona although it is the number one seller in British Columbia. Can't stand the crap.

I will never ever drink a Bud or Miller lite. Pisswater in my opinion.

I don't mind a Dos Equis however. Brahma is a good choice if I have to share with my wife, she prefers lighter beer and this one is mild with a decent flavour.

Don't imbibe much anymore. Had a Guiness draft the other day and it was the cats meow. Also had some Boddinton's Pub ale that was quite good.
