Lol even a tanaka offseason wouldn't makes this a good off season. You are probably looking at one of the worst lineups in cubs history
The offseason wouldn't be a failure because there's little they could have done to change that this offseason alone. The failure is the fact that their ability to acquire players for the future over the past 5 years has been poor. For example, hypothetically lets say they had signed someone like Morse and Tanaka. This would still be a horrible offense. Perhaps it would be slightly better but it's still no where near approaching good.
I'm being realistic here. If they can pull 2 players who can be future contributors on a playoff team I'd consider that to be a big success. Tanaka might be one. If one of the minor league FA types they have signed ends up being a bench player or perhaps more that is a successful offseason.
