It would.

But you can't call improvement meaningless and then turn around and praise the same thing.

It is the ultimate of hypocrisy.
I just want to be clear because the mantra has been major league wins are the only thing that matter. And that this team now is hisotrically bad. So I just want to be clear if an incremental improvement happened this year how that would be viewed.

If the Cubs brass want to hang their hat on that as improvement, they aren't the right guys for the job.

Who is hanging their hats on anything? The comment had nothing to do with how the front office views the situation but how fans viewed it.

I'll speak for myself here, but I don't believe MLB wins only matter. They matter the most to me, because quite frankly I couldn't care less if the Iowa Cubs or Kane County Cougars win titles.

As long as they produce MLB quality players, via trade or via development, I'll be satisfied.

They have had Baez for several years now and he was drafted well before any of these moves would have been made.

Whoops.

They still could have signed Fielder, not traded for Rizzo and drafted Appel with the 6th pick last year.

Whoops again.

Was hoping this site would be troll free, but clearly not.

So even with fielder the team still would have blown goats. Derp. You just killed your own idea.

Lol at having baez for several seasons....he hasn't even been a cub for two years as of today.

As usual, no facts provided. Just you and your sticky keyboard from watching steroid freaks in tights roll around with each other.

What is going to really annoy me is if the team does get healthy and start playing better and say only losses 90 games this year, the same slurpers who say it would be stupid to spend money on players cause improving from 100 to 90 losses is meaningless will be the first ones jumping up and down and pointing to how 'improved' the team is.

Unrelated, signing a huge name FA just to satisfy fans when they'd still suck is Special person. And then we get stuck with the trail end of their contract at huge costs and get stuck with them. If their prime and our window of opportunity matched up, then by all means sign them, but otherwise we get back to the same decline faced after 2008 without even reaping to benefits of postseason ball during that span.

The team improving in general is still a good thing, especially when it doesn't have that same catch about committing big money to a player who won't get us anywhere anyway.

Right, because Fielder would take this team from 60-70 wins to 85-95 just like that.

There aren't facts needed to be provided, it's painfully obvious that Fielder wouldn't make this team suddenly good.

If the cubs had the 6th the pick in the draft...they would have been pretty bad. Fielder was agree agent last season. If thge cubs signed him and didn't have a high draft pick they couldn't take appel this draft.

You're not presenting facts....you're flat out making shit up

So improving from 100 to 90 losses by spending money isn't getting the team anywhere, but if they do the same thing by not spending money it is great improvement??

Thanks for displaying the extreme hypocrisy I predicted.

Didn't even have to wait for the season to end either.

And you take one part of the post and ignored the part before it that explains what is different about it. Congratulations.

They had the sixth pick last year. Fact.

They had the chance to take Appel last year with the sixth pick. Fact.

They still could have signed Fielder and picked Appel last year at six. Fact.

Exactly what is so confusing to you?

I understand you are a pro wrestling fan so obviously have limited IQ, but I would think that should still be easy to grasp that by signing Fielder last year they still would have had the #6 pick.

I like kboys plan...somehow disregard the rules of the draft, win more game still get top 5 picks in the process then develop them. Awesome.

Bitches about ricketts being cheap...cites soler as promising. Lol.

Because the earlier part of the post was meaningless.

The Cubs wouldn't have had to improve to 85-95 wins to be better.

The point being made, which is completely lost on you as usual in your rush to shit all over yourself and argue, is that Fielder would make the team better, period. No one is trying to quantify that to be better the team would have to improve by 25-35 games other than you.

Maybe you should actually understand the rules of the draft first.

The Cubs #6 pick LAST offseason was a protected pick. They could have signed Fielder without losing the pick.

Just one of the reasons I am smarter than you are.

I actually know what I am talking about and not just wasting everyone's time by being a troll.

Yeah but that improvement would have been pointless and just hurt draft positioning... you know... Put us out of being able to draft appel this season

But they didn't have appeal before they had a chance to sign fielder....so your scenario from earlier isn't possible...fact.

You lose again
