Ryan OReilly is going to arbitration for the Avs. Any interest from the Blackhawks? What can the Blackwaks offer?

What? Bickell & Crawford were severely overpaid.

Take away those two shitty contracts & they could've had a chance to sign a legit #2 center like Filppula.

Then who's your goalie, Khabibulin?

:notfunny:

And Flipper is another 30 year old looking for a long term deal...won't happen in Chicago.

:nope:

Sorry, it's disgusting how a mediocre player like Bickell is making 4 mil, when it could've went to a guy like Filppula.

First off, Crawford's cap hit last season was $2.67 million. his $6 million cap hit doesn't kick in until this coming season. Even though Crawford was already under contract for this season, had the Hawks let him go, who would've been their goalie? Emery? Khabi? Raanta? Brodeur? There was no better option.

And even if you take Bickell's $4 million off the books, they STILL didn't have enough room for the $5 million cap hit of Filppula. So your attempt at revisionist history is completely flawed because it wasn't financially possible under the salary cap.

Also, Filpulla has 19 goals in 109 career playoff games. Bickell has 20 in 57.

You're wasting your time with these arguments. They're pointless. Next, you're going to demand the Hawks go back to 2005 and draft Anze Kopitar.

He's a restricted free agent so the Avs are going to retain his rights either way, but he could certainly be trade bait this summer.

Hawks have prospects to offer and a even some guys on the roster right now (Oduya, Seabrook, etc.). Could be some interesting negotiating if the Avs go that route.

no matter what silly arguements you guys want to have, we will still need to make a somewhat impactful move in order to keep up with the west. If LA stands pat they are still very good, stl and the AVs...especially STL if they get statsny...it might be move over chi/LA

St. Louis needs a HELL of a lot more than Stastny to join the LA/Chicago conversation.

Kings are taking a step back because they're losing Gaborik. What piece are the Hawks losing that is making them take a step back?

Since it's going to arbitration, different rules are triggered, I think. Honestly, I don't see the Avs and the Blackhawks as trade partners. The Avs would most likely want to trade him out of the West. Also, his salary demands could be quite large. But that remains to be seen. The Blackhawks need to prioritize around Toews and Kane.

Hjalmarsson + is actually something I've seen mentioned, however. But the Blackhawks have a lot of players that I'm envious of. Just brainstorming, something like Hjalmarsson/Seabrook+Hossa might be ok. The Avs need RWs and a top 4 defenseman. The Blackhawks would get younger and add the 2C that they covet.

I expect the Avs to take a step back. They overachieved with the defensemen that they have.

Zus appears to be on his way out of Chicago.

CHI has told Michal Handzus it is going in a different direction.

Per Bob McKenzie on Twitter. Pretty solid source.

Turned out to be a pretty damn good acquisition by the Hawks. He didn't have a lot left in the tank last season but Q used him wisely and he gave them everything he had.

I don't know about that. Didn't they just give away a lot of young talent for Miller? Now Miller won't be resigned and they're left with only one of the goalie duo they had before. Sounds to me that even the Blues' organization feels they have shortcomings in goal. Unless Stastny suddenly morphs into Gretzky, they are still not that good.

My favorite Zus moment?

When he out-skated (you read that correctly) Bergeron to set himself up for this goal in last year's Cup Final.

That's actually not a bad deal....providing that the Hawks deem O'Reilly the real deal. I mean an aging Hall of Fame type player and a top 4 dman for a kid who has only had
one really good season. Okay, it was a breakout season but was the 3 previous seasons who he is or was it last year's version. I'm not sure I'd invest that much in finding out.
