Hjalmarsson is one of the best values in the entire NHL at $4.1 million. Per Capgeek, he's No. 47 on the list of cap hits among NHL defensemen ... and he's probably in the top 20 in terms of actual playing ability. The Hawks aren't going to do it, but if they move Hjalmarsson they'd be able to get a pretty damn hefty return. Hjalmarsson for ROR straight up is just about a fair deal, IMO.

To which i reply;

And even then I would ask for more if i was Stan.

And i give you Josi, vastly under rated, but The Dion hasnt been anything special for almost five years now.

I like Hjalmarsson a lot but I think Colorado could do better. The Avs have an insane amount of cap room so that's less of an issue. One of reasons I included Hossa was out of anticipation that you'd need to clear cap room to sign OReilly, Toews, and Kane. You'd be getting younger. On top of that, you already have an excellent top defensive pairing with Keith and Seabrook (in spite of the complaining).

To be honest., I'm not adamant about having Hossa per se. But there are might be better options than Hjalmarsson straight up.

Brian Campbell wants out of Florida. Any interest in a second act with him?

He can replace Leddy if we trade Leddy.... I always liked watching Campbell fly out of the zone and carry the puck in deep.

If FLA ate some of that contract I would love to bring Soupy back.

Yeah this, they would need to eat alot of it.... or cut him and Campbell signs with us for a much lower price.... **** it we could put him on our 3rd line as a winger and make him part of a defensive shutdown line lol

Well Oduya is as good as gone, and Leddy could probably use another year on the 3rd pairing. If Roszival could also be moved and FLA would eat 1/3 of that contract...

Guys, Campbell is 35. That's not the way this team works....if he was 25, a different story. This organization will not allow itself to get to the point where they got a bunch of older players. To be honest with you....Hossa might be moving sooner than later. He looked his age against LA and was noticeably slow in a lot of situations. Sharp didn't play real well either but he's still got the wheels where I'm just not seeing it with Hoss.

Moving Oduya and Roszival and then picking up Campbell does not make the team any older. It simply stabilizes your second pairing for 2 years while the younger dmen mature.

And Hossa had a fine playoffs. If I remember correctly he led the team in shots on goal. Trading Hoss would open you up to some of those potential "cap-circuventing" penalties in the near future. They'll keep him until he's ready to retire, and then LTIR him until his contract runs out.

Would not be surprised at all to see Hossa playing at the age of 40.

I would. I love the guy but he wasn't the same player as the playoffs progressed. A lot of games played in the last year...hopefully he just wore down. We'll see next season.
