I think they should turn Wrigley Field into a museum.

or a gas station.

but either way, its too bad they cant win a championship there before they shut it down for good and make it a museum.

But why make it a museum? I mean, the yankees who are a historic franchise didnt do it, so why would the cubs who havent won anything....serious question

"Yes, I will fund Wrigley Field, despite the budget deficit. Wrigley is priority #1!!!"

I honestly don't care about Wrigley Field. I just want the damned team to win somewhere

But since Wrigley and the Cubs are tied closely together, they should turn the dump into a museum so that the Cubs fans can have their Mecca and pray to Cub Allah or whatever while the team plays in a real ball park.

I think in just about every baseball park, once you get to your seat and see the action on the field, it's all the same (assuming you're not sitting behind a stupid pole). I enjoy watching games at Wrigley Field. I like the scoreboard and the ivy. I hate just about everything else.

I don't live in Chicago so correct me if I'm wrong. Isn't the proposed funding going to come from the "amusement tax" on tickets sales? Isn't the plan to just have the government funnel that tax back to Ricketts instead of other tax funded ventures? Won't the only people paying for it be the people that buy Cubs tickets?

I'm actually asking. This is what I have heard.

That is what the plan sounds like it's designed to do.

Here's something I wrote a while back for our Facebook page about ball parks and the most important feature for any baseball fan: the field itself. Note that once you get to your seat, the field sort of looks the same no matter where you're at in the MLB:

Just move to a new fucking stadium, please!

Says the guy who has never even been to Wrigley

As for Wrigley itself, it can be remodeled, they just have to get the approval of the Chicago City council's Committee on Historical Landmarks and Preservation. With Rahm a Cubs fan, I don't see an issue.

I've been to Wrigley many times, and it isn't worth putting $400M into.

It isn't worth asking a bankrupt city and state for funds to remodel a practically worthless building.

This is one time I agree with you. I had the opportunity to get to Wrigley a few weeks ago and I love it. I'd hate to see it go.

I agree Wrigley does have sentimental value, no doubt about it. I would miss going to Wrigley every year.

I think Chicago deserves better than a facility with 50-60 day games a year, outdated clubhouses, and other amenities, not to mention the problems structurally with Wrigley.

From what I've seen from the renovation plans, a lot of those problems would be fixed. Updated clubhouses, new amenities all around the concourse and a better structure around the entire stadium.

The day games are the main sticking point with me too. The neighborhood has held the Cubs by the balls for far too long.
