Nick Kwiatkoski is Ryan Pace's Danieal Manning. A late bloomer who finally figures it out in the last year of his rookie deal before departing. The same was almost true of Kyle Fuller but the Bears matched the Packers offer.

He was good every single time he got into games over the last 4 years so i feel he's been good whenever given an opportunity to play but just wasn't given the chance to start cause we've always had 2 starting caliber ILB's he played behind with having J.Freeman to go with Trevathan before we drafted Roquan.

Speaking of Burton how on earth did this guy get paid so much after his 2017 season? Less than 250 catching yards, only two games where he caught more than two passes that season. He had one catch for 12 yards during the Philly playoff run. And people are so mystified as to why isn't more productive. He's never been very productive despite his salary.

He was very good against the run for the past four years but was almost unplayable in coverage until this season. I am still convinced that if Roquan doesn't miss camp the Bears win the 2018 opener versus the Packers. Post prime Rodgers eat Kwit alive in coverage that game.

That 3 years 24M has to be heavily incentivized given his injury history. We can't afford a cap number that far north of 5M for him.

Trevathan is better than Kwiatkoski.....

If you really watch Kwiatkoski he limits things on defense and is a long term liability in coverage...He certainly is good at tackling but he has a speed and coverage ceiling.

If u really watch.... What ? Where does he limit anything that other linebackers have the same problem.

Kwiatkowski performed as well as Trevethan, if not better, in 2019. One is reaching his prime, the other is leaving it. One has a significant injury history, the other doesn't.

It's not difficult to see which one will be considered more valuable in the market this year.

I literally wrote it; speed.

Kwiatkoski limits what you can do laterally.

If you watch the games Kwiatkoski is not a pursuit linebacker. He is a mismatch problem on quicker RBs where Trevathan doesn't have an issue.

It’s a fine move for performance but interferes a bit with Roquans development as a leader. Roquan seemed to shine more when Danny was out.

I think Smith had a better year with Trevathan in. It allowed the Bears to use him in more areas on the field

It will be interesting to see how the Trevathan and Kwiatkoski contracts compare. We have to believe that Kwiatkoski has to be more expensive, but let's not forget there's also a chance that the Bears, who have had both players in practices and game situations, just prefer Trevathan. They could have seen the # of responsibilities for the position dropped where Kwaitkoski was looking the part, but the rest of the defense was being asked to do more.

Anyway, it will be interesting. My initial thoughts on the 3 year, $24M deal is:

1 - It's got to be one of those deals where it's really a one year deal, so those numbers are meaningless
2 - The LB market might be crazy this year. If this is a legit deal then I'm wondering if that crazy $18M/year deal that Bobby Wagner signed or the $17M/year that Mosely did start looking a bit more normal based on what the market is showing. Imagine if Kwiatkoski gets something like $12M a year? That would be the Danny contract look pretty good.

He played very well for a guy that would never get consistent playing time until last year. I'd have to think it's very hard to get your game going when you don't get consistent playing time and are just playing in a game or two every once in a while especially when you've never played starter minutes in your career.

I've seen Kwiat and Trevathan be good and bad in coverage. Kwiat has made some really good plays in coverage but no i wouldn't say he's as good as Trevathan has been but still good enough to start especially when you have a sideline to sideline ILB playing next to you. It's also gonna be the competition your going against. If you're covering a Mahomes/Kelce, Brady/Gronk or a Brees/Kamara duo then not many LBers will have much luck against any of those combos and many others.

I'm just fine with having Trevathan back cause when healthy he's a great LBer and can be for the next 3-4 years but my issue is the same as many others which is health and it's not only him but Roquan as well. He hasn't shown he can stay all that healthy either and we still have that issue he had that we still don't know what was wrong with him when he missed a couple games.

So 3 years $21.75 mil with $14 mil guaranteed and can make up to $24 mil with incentives. Was hoping for around $6 mil per but if he can stay healthy he's still a great LB so i can deal with $7 mil per for 2 years.

I bet the contracted is structured something like $4-$8-$9 for the cap with a $6m signing bonus or so. Basically a 2 year deal with a little guaranteed left over in year three.

Agreed. I don't think anyone here is saying he's not a good player......just not AS good or he would've been starting over both Smith and Trevs. At least on the Bears, he's a BU linebacker....probably could be a starter elsewhere. You never can tell what's gonna happen but at this point in time, it's a no brainer for Pace.
