I do want to say that one thing that I didn't realize and may have been lost in the launch madness is that Sony and Amazon have teamed up to make the Amazon PSN Store. This is incredible. Now there is an alternate source of competition to buy digital stuff for your PS products. It's a big deal, you at least have another option who is a big time retailer which will do everything in their power to have mega sales and work every dollar out of your pocket. I get PS+ deals already but those on top of Amazon sales on digital content might actually make it worth buy. I've never had a problem with digital content for the most part, just the absolute inconvience of it. Waiting forever to download. then install... then update and install... days just to play a game. BUUUTTT if i'm looking at a mega sale game that is older it might be worth it since I can buy it and just not care to play it anyway. And if I bought the disk I'd have to wait a day or two for delivery so it's like i'm getting it cheaper, playing at the same time I would have as a disc, but only no disk

First, I think that this is going to fuel PS4 vs Xbox One more to the PS4 win. This hurts Xbox imo.

Second, what is great about this is I will be able to register my device and download from work to be ready when I get home. The reason i like the digital more than disc is the same reason I ditched the mass bulk of DvD's. It is so much better without the disc maintainence and what-not.

Not sure how long it takes you to download, but the 7.5 g Lego marvel took less than an hour for me, another, few minutes to install and good to go. This way you can delete or re-download as needed.

P.S. I too started to play within PSN land and I can completely see what Xbox also started instituting sales and free games. It has been nice to try out games here and there for way cheap to free with a service i would be using anyway without em.

The only thing I don't like about digital downloads is the massive amount of space they take up. 500gb won't be enough. I know you can delete stuff, but that's kind of inconvenient. At least you'll be able to easily update the hard drive if you need to.

7.5 Gig download would take me all night... Shit ATT DSL. And exactly right... I hate having to clear space, even though with the disk they still seem to download the whole game on it now. Which is crazy.

Question is will the PS4 be able to utilize that speed increase? Upgrading a PS3 to SSD did not improve performance or at least as much as on a PC.

Ah, you played with SSD on the PS3? I did not because I was only really using my PS3 for videos, netflix, gamecenter, blurays. But with the PS4, as fast as I can get it would be awesome.

I see will see if I can find some info into this part of the architecture... My guess is that you wouldnt see the SSD increase on the PS3 since the HBA is most likely the weak link, not the SSD.

SSD NOTE:

Important here since the PS4 will require 160g drives so options are 250, 500, 1T.

This may be the best way to go for those that dont want to spend $170-600 for SSD:

I personally haven't but never did because of what I read early on. Apparently some games saw significant load time improvements, such as GT5, but most games did not. I think PS3 was also SATA1 so that would be a large reason why. Not sure if PS4 is SATA2 or 3.

But even if you were using a SATA3 drive, it would dumb down to SATA2

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't mean it can't have a SATA III controller and Sony just decided to go with a cheaper SATA II drive.

When I was reading about solid state drives that people want to put in the new PS4 a lot of them said they recieved vastly improved load times on their PS3 and it was well worth it. They also linked to that hybrid drive as a decent low budget substitute. By the time I get my PS4 SSDs will probably be affordable, haha. and needed, same size downloads to HD are reported on PS4. 49 GB for Shadow fall and COD Ghosts, 15 for Madden.

Nice. I knew it was planned but hadn't actually seen it yet. I just want to be able to make it download stuff from anywhere which it does. Now if they would just roll out the Tuesday updates earlier in the day.

I wouldnt have done SSD for PS3, to me it wasnt needed or worth it. But for PS4, as this will be the only console for the next how many years, I will probably invest in SSD.
