He was playing at his peak more or less that year. Which means 3-4 games at a top 10 level, followed by 1-2 games at a bottom 1/4 level.

What the **** is your point? Everything you have said about Cutler is true of 20 other QBs in the NFL.
You act like winning WITH Cutler but not BECAUSE of him is some fucking big achievement. All you are saying is that he sucks.
You are literally saying that while he won't cause wins to happen, he won't blow them either. That means he is NOT GOOD.

Not quite sure how the Bears trying to rid themselves of Jay somehow translates into a big "win" for him. Um, congrats I guess on nobody wanting to touch Cutler with a 200 foot pole and him remaining on the team purely because of his contract.. Yup, that's a huge win alright! lol.

A) agree, but the upgrade really hasn't been that great...they could have used one of those 2 first round picks they gave up to upgrade in other positions and gotten the same mediocre play out of Orton and tried to get an all-time great defense to win with
B) I worded that poorly didn't mean to lump those teams in with all-time greats...but in those years, in the era of football being played they were a top 5 defense which should be good enough for most good QB's
C) and this year the Bears aren't close to having either, so saying the Bears could win with Cutler is a stretch. I'm not holding my breath for one of the worst defenses to turn around to the point of being an all time great. I like Fangio, but it is going to take more than a year for him to make this defense very good.
I want to make sure I am understanding you correctly though...you are saying that the formula to making the Super Bowl is to have one or both of a HOF/pro bowl caliber QB and/or a great/all-time great defense...So we should hold out hope that Cutler after 6 years with the Bears magically turns into that type of QB or that a defense that is being rebuilt can become great within 2 years?

It's sad that that is the only thing they can be proud about with Cutler.
The thing a lot don't understand is fans like me and the other Cutler "haters" want to see Cutler do well, for the past 3-4 seasons I have hoped to be wrong and all that potential and talent we hear about year in and year out actually translates to the field. I root for him every Sunday and hope to see him have a great game. So because I don't think the Bears should keep him on the team anymore doesn't mean I don't want him to prove me wrong. It's just unfortunate he has proved me and others right.

Planning on doing so is not a very prudent/wise course of action.
Saying something is-or was in this case- possible is almost meaningless without noting the actual chances of such a thing occurring. You sound like a 19 yr old telling his father he is dropping out of college because Bill Gates did and became a billionaire.
I agree completely with 2,5,6,7, but wonder what point you actually think you are making to the thinking posters on here. Everyone knows picking some 22 yr old WR or C isn't just for a guy who is most probably gone by the end of 2017. Those who can't grasp this- and unfortunately there are some on here that dumb- aren't going to be swayed by logic or persuasion. They are dumb and it won't ever change unless some sort of rDNA technology emerges for humans in our lifetime.
4 is ridiculous on it's face, and if it were true, coaches like Belichick would command 70M dollar contracts. Coaching is damn important, but personnel is much more so.

Nope, I'm sure he'll have an above average year and be retained for 2016...just to piss off the majority of fans. I'm with despro, JAY 15!...sure as hell isn't gonna get beat out by any of the other scrubs we have on the bench so I'm gonna root him on.
