All major cities have shitty areas. Visit Philadelphia, Baltimore or NY then come back and tell me how "filthy" Chicago is. It's still the best metropolitan city in the U.S.

I just remembered one of my pet peeves when living in Chicago
The lack of respect other drivers have for your car when parked in parking lots..I was always getting door dings etc when parking at a mall. Ive been down here for about 10 years give or take, and I have yet to get 1 door ding..People here are very respectful
